Well, John Marinatto has a fan in Greg Schiano. The Rutgers coach said he's "excited" for both Marinatto and for the senior associate commissioner's ascension. Greg characterized the job Marinatto's done in his own eight-year tenure as "great" and he said the staff Marinatto has up in Providence around him is also "great."
"Certainly, having been a guy myself who got a chance - you know, you always have ideas you want to give a try and I'm sure John's going to have the same," Greg said. Which obviously meant I had to ask Greg about one of the ideas Marinatto said he doesn't have, re: adding a ninth football team to balance the schedule.
"Oh, it's not my job," Greg said of having an opinion on that issue. "I don't have any feelings other than I'm sure they'll do what's in the best interest of the league."
Like I said in the previous post, I guess we'll see.
They're all gonna say the same thing and tow the company line. Ask every single basketball and football coach and I'd be surprised if you didn't get unanimous support for the guy. It would be shocking if there was a dissenter. The proof will be in the pudding, but I'm not expecting any changes.

What? Did you think Coach Schiano would say this guy is a nobody and is the wrong choice for the Big East Conference? C'mon Aditi, this is pure politics right here.
