Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson reveals that he would welcome back Tim Howard in this story.
So what is this all about? Well, Everton is facing Man U tonight and the obvious question to ask Ferguson was about Howard. Was Ferguson really going to say, "No, he's still not in our future plans."? That wouldn't be too smart, especially when it comes down to agreeing to sell Howard to Everton.
The sense I have gotten is that Howard wants to stay at Everton and put the Man U circus behind him. Obviously Man U is a bigger club but as a player would you rather be at a bigger club with a manager who at any moment could decide he doesn't like you anymore and throws you on the bench before dumping you or do you go to a smaller club that is happy to have you and one you could potentially stay with for a decade?
If I were laying odds I would put these as the following odds for Howard's likely home next season:
- Everton 4-1
- Manchester United 20-1
- Another EPL Team 20-1
- Another European League 50-1
I'm sure these will change as we head into spring but that's the sense I get now.
Interesting were his comments that he has no say in what happens. The clubs will decide for him.
