Agustin Delgado was Red Bulls' DP target
According to various sources within Major League Soccer, Ecuadorian striker Agustin Delgado was, in fact, the player the Red Bulls were preparing to sign as a second designated player before FIFA agreed to impose a worldwide suspension on Delgado for his role in a post-match fight in the Ecuadorian league.
Delgado was chosen by the Red Bulls as an ideal target forward in Bruce Arena's attack but FIFA's decision has left the club with little time to seek a reasonable alternative. This means the Red Bulls will likely head into the 2007 season with a forward stable of Josmer Altidore, John Wolyniec, Jerrod Laventure, Ansu Toure and Randi Patterson.
The Red Bulls appear set to wait until the summer transfer window to sign a designated player.
Not the worst group of forwards in the world, but it certainly isn't going to strike fear in any MLS backlines either. I really hope Jozy blossoms with regular playing time and becomes a legit star in this league and the Nats.

If Schopp is healthy, can you say ... 4-5-1

I'm glad the Red Bulls were going after a forward but maybe this is a blessing in disguise that the team didn't get him. Unless Tin is being unfairly portrayed in the media, he seems to be around (causing?) a lot of on and off the field problems. It's hard to believe that Bruce believes he would be a good fit for the team and chemistry despite the Red Bulls need for a forward.

NYRB dodged a bullet on this one. Don't worry, Conor Casey's on the market.
