The new US national team jersey

In case you haven't seen it yet, this is the U.S. National team's new jersey, which it will wear against Ecuador on Sunday AND against Guatemala on Wednesday:

Usjersey

The team will wear it with royal blue shorts and socks. I need to see it in action to give an opinion but I have to say that I liked the last two uniforms better. For now this is the US team's third jersey option but if  this become's the national team's signature uniform then that's fine. I think the US needs to settle on one trademark uniform ala Argentina's light blue stripes, Italy's solid blue and Mexico's green. As it stands, American fans often show up in a mix of red, blue and white so you never get a true sense of how many American fans make up a crowd.

Here is the US Soccer story on the new uniform.

I usually don't take a dislike to things like uniforms, but I have to say: I hate this one. It looks like they ripped off the NY Yankees and just changed the colors! I am totally onboard with you about consistency. Pick something and stick with it - that's how you build a tradition.

I think the shirt would look good with white shorts instead. I also agree that some type of consistency is needed. Maybe the red sash dating back to the 1950's shoudl be a trademark? River Plate has had a variety of uniforms, but the red sash always stands out, regardless of uniform supplier or new jersey technology.

It blows. It looks more like the top to an official US National Team pajama set. They're gonna play badly in this kit because the whole time they'll be preoccupied by how douchy they look running around in it.

yikes, that's really bad.

Not my favorite for sure..but if they win a few games with this kit I won't mind it as much... I also agree about consistency... this is not a fashion show...

I don't like it, looks like a bar league jersey.

I think the uni's from the last WC were good and should continue as the basic design. Ives you are right about the need for a trademark jersey, when England went back to a more traditional jersey for the last WC I thought they hit it right on the money. We need to pick soemthing and stick with it.

Sam's Army has been wearing red for 10 years now. The reason other fan's don't do it as well because US Soccer (or Nike) continues to ignore red as a primary jersey color.

I agree, the last (current ?) white jersey from the 06 WC is the best. It simple, classic and should become the basic design.

welcome to Foot Locker.

Man, that jersey is awesome; it's even giving off a Jesus glow around it!

I have to agree with the consensus...terrible. I'm glad I bought my long-sleeve white Onyewu jersey while it was still available. Thanks for the info though, Ives.

It needs to simply be red to match the red of Sam's Army. They had the Don't Tread On Me jerseys before the WC and I thought that was a step in the right direction. I think they are ignoring their fan base by avoiding red.

I don't hate it, but I've always wished the US badge wasn't so huge. It's never been tasteful. My favorite jersey so far has been the Away jersey they've been wearing the past couple years.

Yup, that is one UGLY jersey!!

I agree with the posters here. The Jersey should be Red based. I think the colors should be some form of Red, White & Blue as that's America's Colors. Perhaps a Red jersey with a Blue sash that has a white border?

i like itb the old blue ones were booooring. vertical stripes are slimming. i will wear this shirt.

Truly hideous. I wish USSoccer had kept the awesome Nike "Don't Tread" uniform the Nats wore against Latvia in the last tuneup before the World Cup. It was sharp, dark red with black lettering and swoosh. This is just hokey.

I don't like it.

It's horrible.
