Red Bulls smoke FC Dallas 3-0
I'm in the process of writing stories and won't be able to drop the heavy posting until later tonight but I had to throw something up.
What a showing from Clint Mathis, who drank from the Fountain of 2000 and smoked his favorite victims one more time. Listen to these career stats for Mathis:
In 30 career games against FC Dallas, that's matches for all his past teams, Mathis has scored 19 goals to go with seven assists against FC Dallas. Yes folks, Mathis owns FC Dallas/Burn and he's got the receipt to prove it.
I'll hit the blog hard between tonight and tomorrow on everything from Hunter Freeman to Claudio Reyna to Ronald Waterreus' temporary bout of hypothermia. Feel free to post your comments and questions at the bottom of this post and I'll see if I can provide some answers if you have any following this game. Now this isn't a formal Q&A, just an informal one for Red Bulls fans regarding today's game.
The one question I always have after a great finish like that is " were the bulls that good, or was Dallas just that bad". Frankencooper did nothing, Ruiz just fouled people, and the mid's were not even in the game. It's good to see Parke back on the pitch. DVB helped my team with that VERY late goal as well. Looking forward to next week.

Is/will/did Angel sign?
If he does will we be able to start him, Jozy, and Clint in the same lineup?

jpa or nay?

I just can't remember what happened with DC Scum yesterday. Hopefully a faithful d-bag reader will be able to comment asap. For example, a reader who was running his mouth without provocation. Before DC Scum's game yesterday. What happened in that game anyway?

P.S. When we got out of the match, we were numb. We manned up, as always, and sat pretty much on the field for the whole match. A killer time. Asked Carlos Ruiz several times in close contact why he was still on his feet. He didn't respond.

On top of the other things you mentioned, I'd also like to know what you think the Bulls will do when Schopp comes back. Richards is playing way too well to sit.

Richards looked amazing. especially smoking down the right wing just before VDB popped home the rebound. What is his ceiling? First time I've seen him but Europe must be calling for him sooner or later.

Richards is VERY good, especially considering his age. But I have to say--and this is only my personal opinion--he does not fit in the lineup if Schopp and Reyna are both starting. His upside is insanely good, but he just isn't good enough to force himself into the lineup if all the players are healthy.

Richards still can't cross a ball in the air.... kinda important most of the time. Other than that a pretty stellar game for the kid.

Yes, Richards can cross the ball in the air. It's just been terrible weather both games so far, and he's kept it on the ground (whether on purpose or not)
Saw him in pre-season and he could cross well, and in the air.
Not about the game but - any news on JPA?

I would be disappointed if RBNY went out and signed Angel or Cisse. Angel is a never has been and Cisse is too expensive but not good money for talent.
Wait for the summer transfer window and get someone like a Del Piero or an accomplished striker.

The team played very well today. With Juan Pablo Angel joining the Red Bulls, you can not but be excited! Congrats to today's players for a great game!

I just want to give props out to the fans that showed up at Giant Stadium today. I grew up in the northeast and caught some of the first half on TV today and it looked downright miserable so credit to all who made it out there. We had fans in Houston complaining last night about the cold and wind (55 and very windy) but that was nothing compared to today.

Actually, compared to opening day two years ago against Real Salt Lake, tonight's game seemed milder. I expected large gusts of wind but it was minimal. Ives, if possible, I would like your assessment of each player.

Did it feel like you were covering a game in Italy?

And boy, can't wait 'till Jozy Altidore learns how to finish non-set plays. Is he still 17?

Hey Ives, I have been a fan of Cleetus for years, and I have been a fan of MLS since it's inception. To see my favorite league and my favorite player getting back on their feet is just wonderful. Judging from the first week, there are plenty of exciting new players for this year, including Dane Richards, Adam Cristman and Robbie Finley. Keep up the good work RB. Thanks

Can you give a run down on the newest Red Bull, Juan Pablo Angel... your assessment of his career performance, recent performance, health, age, fitness, strengths as a player, new starting formation and how he would best fit into Red Bull tactics, etc.

Um... I know you've been busy, but will you ever get to the last 20 questions of the most recent Q&A?
Posted by: steve | April 16, 2007 at 09:30 AM
To Joe in ND: have you ever seen Angel play? A never was? Huh?
Posted by: Tonerl | April 16, 2007 at 01:43 PM
