And I'm back
Hello folks. Sorry for the lack of posts today but yesterday's drive up to Foxboro, the slate of stories I had to write, and today's drive back home to Jersey left me needing some time off. I'm back though and will be checking out your comments and looking to catch you all up and whatever I have missed.
I wrote a column for ESPN.com on the US national team and its group stage performance in the Gold Cup but it hasn't posted yet. Hopefully it is there in the morning.
Also, for those of you who hadn't seen it, Adam Spangler of ThisIsAmericanSoccer.com did a profile on me for his website. I was a little wary of passing this along but I figured I owed it to Adam to let the SBI Mafia know about it.
That's all for now. I'll check back in tonight and start posting again so stay tuned..
The profile was great and I think you for doing it.

I second Tony's comment...I learned a lot....and really appreciate your candor...

Ives, You are too hard on yourself. You have a following for a reason. Thank you for letting Adam give us even more insight about you.

Hi Ives...thanks for the link to your profile... Here is what I posted on the comments section after your interview on ThisisAmericansoccer.com site:
Great read... Ives is the man and should be considered one of the best soccer writers in the USA. I have been reading Ives for over 7 years and hope he continues to get his writing out to more people... Wish we had more like him... ag

Haha, I loved that tidbit about Mexico players and how much USMNT is in their head. It's just amazing how a team assembled with the top professionals all of a sudden collectively lose their professionalism and behave like sore losers.
Ives, have you already done a piece on Mexico NT and their psyche? I mean like a full blown coverage of their antics from insider's POV. I just find this whole thing really amusing to say the least, even more so than the actual score itself :)

Ives,
Thanks for the link and thanks to thisisAmericansoccer for doing the profile/interview of you. Like another reader said, I learned alot. For your blog, you should add a new category called "the writer" and include this entry in that category.
I really liked the piece you wrote about the history of Man U at the time Red Bull purchased the MetroStars. That is one of the most timely, well-written articles that I have had a pleasure of reading.
Question: Who was the MetroStar player that you mentioned that you knew when you first covered the MetroStars?
Posted by: Tim | June 13, 2007 at 09:34 PM
Well if Mexico does not win the game tonight we will see how their psyche is against the US Saturday.

Ives, I noticed Panama's #10 (Escobar) was ejected tonight, but hadn't appeared in Panama's first 2 games.
What do you know about him? I'm guessing he must've been banged up, but he must be one of their better players if he was played against Mexico without having played earlier (not to mention he wears El Diez!)

Yeah two of them jokers will be out against us, they looked dangerous against el tricolores though, should have got at least one. Shameful to see the "embelishing" a supposed CONCACAF giant like Mexico has to resort to. As a throw in, Steveinho made me laugh for a good minute with his post

The Mexican futbolistos believe in something called "arrido."
Look it up.
But really, I also just think they're being sore losers.

Sorry for the typo.
It's "ardido."
Lo siento.

Hey, Reading on how you want to do a piece on the RB's youth team, here's something you might want to look into.... My brother plays for for the u-20's. Originally the team said that the price to play on the the team wold be in the $1000-$2000 range for the year in Feb.. Then the club back tract and made the announcement that everything would be free, and proceded to pay for dallas cup, hotels, transportation, ect.... Then, recently the team /club said that this policy no longer stood and the players must pay there own way again... rumblings within the organization said that this was attributed to the signing of JPA. Have you heard anything about this? Maybe a potential topic to write about in a future column.

Ives, regarding youth clubs in major markets.
It seems that the smart thing for MLS clubs to do is buy them out, or merge them into their organizations. Why start from scratch if these organizations already have the infrastructure in place to recruit, manage, and develope players?

Hey Ives! I've seen some of your stuff on Soccernet's site, but never made it over here to your blog until the piece by Adam at TIAS. I thoroughly enjoyed the interview and likewise have enjoyed reading the content here. I'm now adding your site to my daily rounds. Thanks!

SBI Mafia! I love it. It was actually a really good profile, and you're much more interesting that you think. But maybe we here are biased since we already like you and have for ages.
