Beckham's gem makes Saturday match a can't-miss
If you were waiting to see what David Beckham did on Wednesday night before buying tickets for Saturday's Red Bulls-Galaxy match you had better hurry. Tickets aren't likely to last much longer.
Beckham's stunning goal and assist performance in Los Angeles' 2-0 win against DC United on Wednesday served to re-ignite the buzz surrounding Saturday's match at Giants Stadium, making the remaining 20,000 or so tickets that had been available a must-have.
We aren't likely to know until Friday whether Beckham will play but the word from sources is that he will definitely play. Given the fact that he's set to go to England to play for the national team next week Beckham will need to play some on Saturday to show that he's healthy.
Will he start again? Somehow I doubt that, but I think it is a safe bet that he plays good minutes in the second half.
Here's what I want to know from you, the SBI readers: Do you plan on going to the match on Saturday AND what are you looking forward to the most about Saturday's match?

Looking forward to Red Bulls soccer in front of a non-empty stadium!

I won't be there to cheer for Metro. I've gone to games for many years, buying an ESC Member ticket the day of game. So buying soccer tix in advance is a foreign concept for me. Lo and behold, Section 101 has been sold out for months. Since I cannot be in 101, I'm not going.

I second that - looking forward to Angel and Altidore stealing the show.

Cant wait to see Becks cross the 40 yard line and take it into the red zone. Get the dam football lines of the field. RedBull Park cant come soon enough

I'm a season ticket holder so was going to the match whether or not DB plays or not. Not all that interested in Becks. Just hoping for a win by the Red Bulls (and goal by Angel and Altidore).

I look forward to an LA beating at the hands of the RBNY JPA-JOZY duo
BTW - this match is set to broadcast on FSC - any word on ESPN for a national telecast? This should be a match they should show! So the whole nation could see RBNY!

Ives:
Do you think ESPN will try to pick up the Superliga final from Telefutura now that Beckham is in the Finals and it's for a $1 million prize?
I'll just have to watch the RBNY-LA game on the television. Not rolling from Newport News, VA to NY. However, I will be looking forward to seeing how much Becks plays and whether he's going to be really careful with that ankle on FieldTurf.
I think Angel and Altidore will put at least two goals, so we'll see if LA can match that.

I wish I were going, I expect it to e a greatly entertaining match.
However, I am still boycotting the Red Bulls and their Ticketing Office/Program.

I bet ESPN would love to swap out the Beckham-less Galaxy-Chivas match for Galaxy-Pachuca. Maybe they can make it happen.

I will be driving up from DC for the game, and while I don't wish ill of Becks, I am looking forward to a strong performance by the Red Bulls. This is going to be Jozy's night.

nope, gonna be "down-the-shore" enjoying a few coctails and walking the boardwalk. I might catch the game if ESPN picks it up otherwise I'll read the Sunday paper... oh wait, we're talking soccer here, I bet it won't even make the newspaper (Star Ledger). Guess I'll have to go on-line to read about it the Red Bulls dominating victory next week sometime.

I've missed approximately 4 home games since 1996 so I'll definitely be there.
I don't have any delusions about what to expect though, not after attending Freddy's debut.
What I know is that the massive attendance is effing up our tailgate, which we do every game. What I also know is that if 60,000 people show up, about 5,000 will be supporting the red bulls. I couldn't believe how many people were not only supporting Adu--BUT DC SCUM, our worst rival--during Freddy's debut.

P.S. I am excited for the atmosphere...I didn't mean it to sound like I'm not pumped for the match.
Posted by: kpugs | August 16, 2007 at 11:19 AM
I'll be there, Beckham or no Beckham.
Posted by: J1m | August 16, 2007 at 11:31 AM
I'm going for the Red Bulls, Beckham (if he plays) is just an added bonus. RBNY 3 - LA 0
I hope Mathis scores one of those to beat Gio's record in front of a packed house.

Not going, but it will be fun to watch because there will be more than 28 spectators in Giants Stadium. RBNY needs their stadium built today!

My Top 5 Reasons I'm looking forward to the RB vs. Galaxy game this Saturday:
5. Say what up to my buddy Santino
4. Cheer on the Galaxy
3. Watch Mathis tear it up
2. Drink beer and cook out in the parking lot before the game
1. Heckle Reyna the entire match

There were only 24 tickets left on stubhub 30 min ago

I'll be there, but I have season tickets. And I'm looking for a NY win. Nothing less.
Posted by: Warren | August 16, 2007 at 12:36 PM
I have to work but even if I didnt I couldnt go to an RBNY game without being in 101, I can't just sit there and watch a game, I might as well go to a baseball game.

Like the rest of you guys, I'm as excited to see Giants Stadium full of soccer fans and the atmosphere as I am for the game! That being said, I hope beckham has a great game, just that Jozy and Angel have better ones.
