Chivas USA thrashes the Galaxy, 3-0 as Beckham plays 90 minutes (Again)
Maykel Galindo scored two goals and David Beckham played yet another 90 minutes, but it wasn't enough as the LA Galaxy dropped a 3-0 decision to arch-rival Chivas USA on Thursday night.
Beckham played his third full match in six days and left the field with a pronounced limp after spending the last minutes of the match grimacing in pain. Not sure what Frank Yallop was thinking. Maybe he was trying to figure out where in San Jose he will buy a house this off-season.
The loss is the Galaxy's third straight in MLS play. When was the last time they won in MLS play? Try the Fourth of July.

Insane. The man clearly has heart. No fans should complain that he hasn't given everything he has. I hope he takes this weekend off and saves himself for next week's SuperLiga game, which is the only thing the Galaxy have left to play for.

Unfortunately for Beckham, he's surrounded by a bunch of nothings.
Posted by: Rocco | August 24, 2007 at 02:11 AM
Yallop can go house hunting with Donovan, next year's Earthquakes captain.

Anyone who complains Beckham doesnt have heart is seriously deranged.
How many athletes in any league, get their paycheck and dont bother to show up until they have to reup.
Please get rid of the Coach and GM.

Yallop fired Friday. At least I hope so. Something has to change. They played with no heart tonight (except for Becks and Cannon...maybe Randolph). The rest were worthless. I've seen parked Winnebagos with better pace than the Galaxy. They are a complete disgrace.

Why would you not take Beckham out when Chivas scored the second goal? The whole organization is a mess from the GM who put that patchwork team together during the middle of a season to the coach who has probably been the worst in MLS this year. The Galaxy are 0-4-1 in MLS since Beckham arrived. They've been stuck on three wins forever. Superliga is their only hope for something positive this year, and I don't like their chances against Pachuca. It wouldn't surprise me if Beckham and Xavier are the only ones left in the entire organization next year.

Frank Yallop said, "I used him tonight and I shouldn't have done that." That's a statement that should get you fired. Lalas is handcuffed with Yallop though, and it looks like they will both go down with the sinking ship called the LA Galaxy.

This is Lalas' fault. It just proves that soccer is a team sport and even one of the best players in the world cannot make a difference if the rest of the team stinks. Or is it that Beckham as a talent is overhyped and all he has is heart. I know many players that have heart and it means Sh_t when results are expected.

LA needs to rest up for the superliga final, win that, and start rebuilding for next year. the season is over.
Posted by: ChrisLA | August 24, 2007 at 03:30 AM
becks is a hero but this is getting insane. i dont know why this was necessary. the galaxy are not making the playoffs. while its true the game was on ESPN2 and at home against chivas it still isn't worth destroying your self. becks will be on national tv plenty more times. i just hope hes fit enough to play in the superliga final cause i thats the only thing the galaxy have a shot at and besides we cant let mexico win this.

Wow! Absolutely shocking stuff. Playing Beckham 90 minutes is just plain stupid. This team needs a complete overhall. Funny how Becks played the full 90 and Donovan only played about 30. I bet Donovan wouldn't have even played if Becks wasn't there to make him look like a complete p***y! THE CROWN JEWEL OF THE MLS SHINES BRIGHTY!

The Galaxy is like a bunch of racing car parts sitting around unassembled, racing against assembled cars.
Posted by: Fred | August 24, 2007 at 08:05 AM
That game was weak last night. I'm starting to feel really bad for Becks. I mean, the guy wants to leave it all out there for the MLS and for his country and yet, he has NO ONE with him. No one on that team has any pride and no one seems to give a poo about winning. I could not believe (or maybe I expected) that Donovan only played 30 while Becks played 90. Maybe that's why Donovan gave up the armband, b/c he knows he's a complete poon and doesn't have his heart in it like Beckham does. I don't care how much money Beckham is making, I feel so sorry for him watching him wince in pain and leaving everything out there while Pavon slowly trots around.
What about that Marsch tackle? If I was Becks, I might have punched him. You don't go sliding in late and kick your leg up to hit someone in the ribs. What a douche!
I just hope Beckham doesn't get so frustrated that he wants to get out of here. LA needs to clean house as far as I'm concerned. From the top, all the way down to Vaginas. Oh, I'm sorry, Vagenas.

"From the top, all the way down to Vaginas" - I seriously can't stop laughing, no matter how old the joke gets.
Lalas and Yallop are Dumb and Dumber. "I shouldn't of played him tonight". It took you 90 F*&$ing minute to figures that out!? I can't wait for the HUGE overhaul that is obviously just brewing over there on the left coast.
Posted by: rc | August 24, 2007 at 08:19 AM
This is from todays LA Times "Asked why Beckham had even been on the field, let alone played the full game, Yallop suggested that it was Beckham's choice." Was it Beckham's choice to play the WHOLE game? Yallop could have subbed him out when he saw that there was no way to win the game.
He plays 90 minutes on an injured ankle on artificial turf then flies to London to play another 90 minutes then flies 12 hours to LA to play 90 minutes only 7 hours after getting off the plane. Incredible. Someone had better rest him otherwise we are going to be seeing him in a suit on the bench for quite some time.

This is the worst Galaxy team in the history of MLS.
The quality of the players around Beckham are the problem. The only two players worth anything are Xavier and Beckham. The rest are shiite.
I am amazed at that level the number of first touches that go wildly off the foot of players. And, Wynalda was right that players in 1v1 situation did take anyone on.
Who is to blame?
There is a saying we give our boys in coaching, you play how you train. The way the Galaxy play, their trainings must be very lax.
Talking to one of the Chicago players, he said that the intensity at Fire trainings since Osorio has taken over is making a big difference. (In addition to Blanco demonstrating how the game should be played). Every training is different compared to Sarachan where it seemed they were on auto-pilot.
Get the sense that the Galaxy are loving their nice Adidas uniforms and equipment, but forgetting that they are Footballers and need to work a little more on their game.
I feel sorry for Bekcham. By now, he is probably second guessing his move by the quality around him. The headlines in England may be right, they look like a Pub Team.

"My last Beckham column (for a while)" ...well, it barely lasted for 2 days.

get lalas out of there.
Posted by: jtk | August 24, 2007 at 08:48 AM
I think he should have come out sometime in the second half, because he look tired during the second half. But it was great to see someone out there giving it all. Galaxy's defense was just horrible. Well at least I can still pull for Peru in u-17 World Cup, since US seems like it may not make it to the next round. Great story, with sadness from the earthquake in Peru. The peruvian u-17 is doing well trying to add smiles to peruvians.

Yallop will be gone in no time.
That performance was pathetic.

Cant really fault Marsh for the tackle. About a minute earlier Beckham steamrolled him right in front of the ref. Jesse has been in the league way too long to take that.
LA had no depth to begin with and losing Albright, Harden, Javic, Gray, is too much to recover from. Those guys in the back couldnt start in the USL. Note to Lalas: You could use Sturgis and the Jamaican Hatchetman right now.
I was a bit surprised LD didnt start the second half. If he couldnt play, then fine. How many people in the world would play directly after a 10hr flight? Sure these guys are paid to play, but their performance is also dictated by their fitness.
However if he could play, come on as soon as the match goes 10v10. Thats perfect for him. Once LA goes down a goal, Chivas can sit back and plug up the gaps.
Enjoy today's flight to Denver.

Total insanity for Beckham to play 90 again. I think this was the nail in the coffin for Yallop. He's gone by the end of the season.
Posted by: Brandon | August 24, 2007 at 09:23 AM
Why do I feel like the past week has been a game of chicken between McClaren and Yallop/Lalas using Becks as the car to be wrecked in the process?
I agree that Xavier and Becks are the Galaxy now. Even though Landon was clearly not a factor in this game due to fatigue, really, since Becks arrived and save for the DC United game where Landon scored, I really haven't see him play with any heart at all. Its like he has conceded that since he is no longer the captain, that it isn't his responsibility to contribute to this team any more.
One more potshot...that Robbie Findley for Chris Klein trade just about sums up the capabilities of the front office. Klein looked terrible in that right back (?) position.
Posted by: NewFoundMadness | August 24, 2007 at 09:26 AM
Becks definitely showed heart in the last two weeks. I think his talent and heart are unquestioned at this point.
I don't understand why Yallop played him 90. I'm sure beckham was not happy and probably should've just came off after the third goal and let those hacks play with 9.
I don't get Donovan sometimes. I think he has such a high level of talent and is arguably the U.S. best player but I hate his demeanor. I loved how Wynalda said towards the end, "Donovan will never win a headball, this isn't Brian McBride we are talking about." I think it was a shot in some way by Wynalda at Donovan.
But anyway, I think Beckham should take Sunday off versus Colorado and be ready to go versus Pachua.

I don't see how anyone can justify Marsch's tackle. First off, Beckham fell into him. Marsch went down and Beckham fell over him. I wouldn't have called it a steamroll and even if he did, it wasn't intentional. Then 2 minutes later, Marsch comes back with a flying kick to the stomach/ribs?? How is that justifiable?
As for the trades, there have been some absolutely ridiculous ones this year. The Sturgis/Findlay trade. ANY Arena trade. It's amazing these people keep their jobs.
I agree with NewFound on the Donovan thing. I think he gave his armband away, so he didn't feel responsible for the team sucking anymore. Now he can give a halfassed performance every week and not feel guilty. As for Donovan 'taking a knock', I think that's rubbish. There's no way his 'knock' was as bad as Beckham's ankle. I'll tell you that right now.
Did anyone hear Wynalda talking about Jesse Marsch's kid and then tell the other guys what it would be if you said it backwards? Does anyone else think he gets hammered before games?
