Claudio Reyna: I'm not retiring
Even though I knew the answer to the question I still asked Claudio Reyna about suggestions that he would retire after the 2007 season. Reyna stated pretty clearly that he will come back in 2008 and think about his future toward the end of that season.
"I feel good right now and I've been able to play most of the season, except for some games early in the season," Reyna said. "I can still keep up with these young guys so right now I'm focused on this year and next year and I'll think about what's next after that."
Reyna confirmed that his contract in 2008 is a guaranteed deal, a deal he has no plans to walk away from.

Let him play out this season and next season and when it comes to 2009, let him come back but not as a DP and not for big $$$.

Ask him what he thinks his overall contribution to the team has been this season and as of late, beyond being able to "keep up with these young guys."

I sure hope he's willing to take a significant paycut next year.
Otherwise he can play in Columbus or Real Salt Lake next season

That's really awful news. The Red Bulls don't need is a Defensive Midfielder DP (Reyna isn't even the best in the league at that position). They need a Creative Midfielder DP. Please retire Reyna so we can get Riquelme.

I really like Reyna but he's not worth a DP slot. I hope he will play without occupying a DP slot.

In my opinion, Reyna's great value to the team is his ability to keep posession in the center of the field, which should allow the red bulls to play a 4-3-3 without being dominated in midfield, which is what I would hope to see from the team moving forward.

Claudio will turn it on come September - November when the temperatures won't impact him. Go back to the early going of the season and you saw a man that controlled the tempo of the match in the cool temperatures.

I hope the league progresses enough that 2 years from now he won't even be taken seriously.
Come on, forget his resume, Reyna is as of now a run-of-the-mill player in this league. I think that the people who still defend his value, like Ives, are basing that on sentimental reasons; it can't possibly be by his contributions on the pitch. 9 out of 10 passes Reyna makes is beck to a defender. Who then is suppose to be feeding the forward line, guys like Goldy? It's irritating as hell. I don't care if you're the supreme defensive midfielder -- which Reyna isn't -- when your team takes posession of the ball, freaking turn around and face the other goal!!

Good. All you bashers can be tortured the next 2 years. Haha.
