Pre-sale for Galaxy-Red Bulls surpasses 60,000
As you might have expected, tickets for Saturday's match between the Red Bulls and Galaxy are going fast.
The number of tickets already sold has gone past 60,000 and could reach 70,000 by Saturday afternoon, especially given weather forecasts that are calling for a sunny afternoon followed by a clear night. A strong walk-up crowd could result in a crowd comparable to the one that saw the Red Bulls play Barcelona last year.
Ives, what is the latest on Eddie Lewis's sale from Leeds Utd. to Derby?

I read a post on a blog earlier today that indicated Benny might start on Saturday. That would be incredible if it was the case.
As for Eddie Lewis, I had read that too. That would be great. I can't imagine he's having a good time at Leeds.

I heard on the BBC this morning that Lewis's deal was finalized -terms undisclosed (at least the BBC didn't disclose them). That is good for Lewis!

After Beckham's fantastic goal I think the fans got the enthusiasm needed to support even more the team. American soccer was needing "something" to spice things a little... and that has been achieved.

This is turning out to be a decent investment.
I wonder if anything approaching these sorts of crowds would be achieved if each team had a player who is globally recognized.

the question people should be asking is what the crowds will be like the second time beckham comes to town. will they get 30,000? people in america will go to anything once. how many stick with soccer is the decider on whether it's worth the investment.

Most of the 60K was sold as a 4-game pack, so the impact to NYRB is incredible!

Please sing "New York, New York" at the top of your lungs, with scarfs (if you have them) overhead during kick-off and then at the 90 minute mark.
I would be classic. Please pass it on..."New York, New York" during kick-off and at the 90 minute mark.

man, i sure hope they lay down new turf for this game. with the number of tickets sold, i am sure they can afford to do this one time.

Will there be NFL lines?

All are welcome in lot 13A, up near the port-o-potties (classy right?).
Ask for Kevin or Pat and we can rap about SBI. That includes you Ives.

I know that it means he will miss games because MLS ignores the FIFA calendar, but I still can't help but smile when you look down the list of 28 players called into the England side and see the following:
Midfield: Beckham, David (LA Galaxy)
