Red Bulls eyeing another forward
Heading into their two week break you would have expected the Red Bulls to do something about their back-line, which is the most poorly populated defense since the Iraq army. What you probably wouldn't expect is the team to be taking a look at a forward.
Well, Bruce Arena is doing just that. The Red Bulls are taking a look at Liberian forward Francis Doe, who most recently played in Greece. A one-time Minnesota Thunder striker, Doe most recently went on trial for FC Dallas but failed to secure a deal.
So why are the Red Bulls looking at Doe? They might be unhappy with their forward options after the main three of Juan Pablo Angel, Jozy Altidore and John Wolyniec. Jerrod Laventure had been impressing early in the year but he didn't even dress for the team's last game. Randi Patterson did dress but he is still a raw prospect. Chris Karcz has yet to dress for a first-team game.
And what about the defense? No word on who the team will bring in to help give the team some depth but Tony Sanneh still has to be considered a possibility. The question is how much Colorado will be asking for. The Rapids traded a fourth-round pick for Sanneh so you figure the price must start there.

I guess we'll play a 0-6-5 or something? WTF?

I wouldn't mind another forward, but I'd prefer an attacking mid instead.

Id prefer it if Reyna was sent away

Wha?
Ives, can you ask Bruce what he hell he's planning on doing if anyone else in the back line gets injured? There are simply not enough bodies back there.

So we're searching for a backup to a backup so he can warm the bench rather than signing an army of defenders? Awesome.

this could be part of a more complicated trade like maybe bruce is trading away jozy, woly, or mathis for a defender and he wants to acquire a forward to replace one of them.
or hes crazy

Any chance this points to Bruce going with playing all 3 Jozy JPA Woly on a permanent basis?
Unless there's another move, it's what I would think.

One, your Iraq army wisecrack was soooo offensive. My heart is breaking. What are you, a racist? Heh heh heh.
He played for the Minnesota Thunder previously. Can't be that spectacular. Signing old USL players is not really something Bruce needs to be concerned with right now.
Also, did someone dig up a Pet Cemetary in Colorado? Is that where undead Tony Sanneh is coming from. Seriously, this guy has a history of injury problems as well as being old as dirt. Can you not find a better defender ANYWHERE? Seriously... while Bruce is at it, he should ring Tom Dooley, get Jeff Agoos dressed out, and tell Lalas to start growing his goatee back. I think Arena might be sniffing glue.

I think the answer is that Bruce knows if Alex can't get a work permit, Chelsea plan to loan him to RBNY until January.

Who are ya?!?!?
Pass please, focus on adding depth and quality at positions of dire need....like say centerback.

Wamiq/Joamiq - I agree. is a 2-3-5 lineup in the cards?

This move really makes me forget that we only gave up 7 goals in our first 9 games...when our BACK 4 WAS VERY HEALTHY and then 16 goals in the last 9 with out MAKE-SHIFT BACK 4 of Defenders and mid fielders. Is Bruce drinking from the Hudson river? He has gone from genius to insane!!! WE NEED DEFENDERS and ONE attacking play making Central Mid Fielder! Something that Mathis is not getting used to do anymore

An article about Eddie Johnson.
http://www.kansascity.com/sports/wizards/story/209690.html
Is it just me or have I heard this story before? Man gets rich, supports 13 people, but also manages to support a tricked-out Escalade, Diamonds everywhere, etc. Hope Eddie's saving some of that money.
Might not have gone to England b/c his rapper lifestyle won't cut it over there. Don't know if he can handle being unsuccessful abroad.

Tell that to Brain McBride, Tony Sanneh, Brian Ching, Jimmy Conrad, Pat Onstad, Kerry Zavagnin, Maykel Galindo, Herculez Gomez, NY's own John Wolyniec and a whole host of other former USL players who are now stars in MLS.
Your slag of USL is very weak.

I read somewhere that the Red Bulls offered Ronaldo a huge contract to leave milan and come to New York last month. Did any one else hear this?

Speaking of USL, being from Rochester I keep seeing a rerun of Rhinos vs, I think maybe the Thunder actually, I didn't watch much any time, but I keep hearing them say Ubiparipovic, anyone know what gives?

You tell em Bruce. Thanks for checking in. Now where is your in-depth scouting report on this guy?
Posted by: Ives | August 01, 2007 at 04:14 PM
Look, I wasn't trying to say that USL was terrible. I just don't think searching for an umemployed former USL forward is really where the Red Bulls need to be looking right now. Get someone who can serve the ball to Angel and Altidore and get a defense.
Sorry if I offended any former USLers out there. Wasn't my intention.

The whole problem with RedBulls is Bruce Arena, he make mistakes sending defender to other team (toronto) and know is in trouble, is really acoach for the RedBulls? sure he was a coach with National team and was a fiasco...
Expending money is not his like crazy..2 assistants coachs, none make one..he destroy the whole team..know is in trouble.

Cheers to Brucio. We have the makings of an Amerisnob up above . . .

It has nothing to do with USL or wherever he came from. We had Philipakos come from the Greek league and the dude was out of shape. If he can play, Bruce will take him. If he can't, he won't. I'm not so sure this is what we should be looking for either, but there's not much we can do about it.

I stopped reading there

Almost makes you wonder if Arena is still working for DC United, and is only coaching NYRB as a means to F them up even worse...
Posted by: savannahfan | August 01, 2007 at 07:19 PM
As I thought on this move for awhile longer, the answer suddenly hit me... This deal is clearly Arena finding a replacement for the impending Woly to Celtic transfer!

Ok, so we need defense, but we haven't scored many goals lately either. Where's Mike Magee? Has he been sent "adrift"?
