USL Playoffs: Seattle wins, Portland and Atlanta tie

Seattle_sounders_1_the_associated_p

The Seattle Sounders recorded a valuable 2-1 road win against Puerto Rico in the first leg of their home-and-home USL Semifinal series on Friday night. Seattle now returns for the second leg in Seattle on Sunday with a considerable edge. Oh, and Petter Villegas scored Puerto Rico's goal with a 25-yard blast (MetroStars/Red Bulls fans just spit up their Cheerios.)

Atlanta and Portland tied the first leg of their home-and-home series, 1-1, in Atlanta on Friday. night. Portland's vaunted defense was breached for a  first-half goal but Portland equalized early in the second half. The teams travel to Portland on Sunday for the second leg, which will air on Fox Soccer Channel at 8pm.

And Villegas scores!

Going back to PGE Park in Portland with a draw will do just fine. We're undefeated at home all season and we'll draw a huge crowd. Rose City 'til I Die!

Just the result we needed. The Timber Army will be out in force on Sunday and We will be looking forward to slamming Shittle next!

you mean just like you guys haven't done all season, right? ;)
sounders for the win!

A Seattle-Portland final would be a USL dream come true. I think it would be a fun game to watch for any soccer fan.

PS: I'm watching this WWC game between North Korea and Germany and I think it's totally unfair that the Koreans have to play against a men's team.

I saw the FC Dallas game against Seattle and those two forwards Le Toux and Levesque really left an impression on me.

go sounders. they deserved better than they got out of their open cup match which look suspiciously fixed........

hopefully they can with the USL.

Wow, Seattle and Portland play on Friday night, fly across the continental U.S. the long way on Saturday and play another match Sunday night. The thought of that schedule actually makes the Portland/Atlanta flight look like a short commute.

Oops, Seattle and Puerto Rico. Sorry.

Interestingly, the photo Ives has shows half of the professional contingent of players from Hawaii (as was mentioned on the Best XI thread a few days ago). On the left is Kenji Treschuk, who scored the game winner, and is a defensive midfielder. On the right is Zach Scott, fullback, from Maui.
