Your questions answered (The Lost Questions)
Good morning folks. As you know, I try to make it a habit of answering all the questions submitted for the Q&As. Well, it didn't quite work out that way the last time. There were so many questions that I left off a good number of them. I didn't forget about them, I just needed some free time to get them done and I had to get them done so I could clear the way for the next session.
So here they are, my answers to the lost questions from the most recent Q&A. Enjoy.
LAWRENCE- Do you think Rolfe can be real option at RM? I do.
IVES- I don't think you will get any substantial news on a second New York team for some time but the feeling around the league is that the team is coming. If I had to put a target date on it I would say 2010 or 2011.
One thing I keep hearing from readers is complaints about why MLS would consider a second team in the NYC area when the Red Bulls aren't exactly packing them in. The fact is the MetroStars spent a decade effectively ignoring the New York City market, choosing instead to focus on New Jersey to build its fanbase. The benefit of that now is that you have a market that is relatively untapped. Yes, there are a number of Red Bulls fans from New York but there are scores of soccer fans in the five boroughs who would embrace a team located in Queens of another NYC borough. Two teams in the market can work and the natural rivalry would only help both sides thrive.
Where would you rank Zidane among the all-time greats?(or at least the ones you've seen play)
And 2 (sorry for length) Can you give us a brief history of the blog ex. why you started/when. Thanks
Derby has very little chance of being in the EPL next year. Where do you think Feilhaber will end up?
It's not that I mind it. It's just kind of weird. Do you think this would happen if I went to watch Mexico vs. US in Mexico City?
(If you ask me, we should go back to the USA '94 ones. Not. Those were horrible.)
JOE IN ND- Ives, do you see Liverpool mounting a real title challenge this season? If not what do they need to do to win the Premier League title?
Thanks as always, keep up the good work.
Do you think it doesn't happen more often because of 1. MLS teams reluctance to expose players to injury, 2. foreign leagues reluctance to take a player for such an odd period of time, or some other reason.
Obviously not all MLS players are high enough caliber, but I'm only asking about those that could represent something mutually beneficial for both clubs (experience for the MLS club and depth/scouting for the borrower).
JON G- What league, in your opinion, is of better quality:
1. Serie A or La Liga?
2. MLS or the Mexican League?
1) loans don't have to last for the entire time between windows (see Henrik Larsson at United last season) So long as the league they are going back to has an open window (which MLS would) a player could loan out in the winter and return for the start of the MLS season.
2) totally agree on picking one national team uni and sticking with it.
My vote is for all navy. White top on navy shorts is just a rip of England and looks very similar to Germany. All navy is unique and it looks way more bada$$ to use the technical reasoning. :p

Doesn't Scotland wear a navy kit at home?

as for the pk question, the ball has to move forward but can be a pass.
in the u.s. hall of fame game a few years back this happen, but the ball was laid off backwards a bit (they let it go seeing how it was an exhibition, but got into the rule book about it during the game).

I believe they do Matt but that uniform isn't as synonymous with Scotland as say, the blue is for Italy or light blue stripes is for Argentina.
Short of wearing an American flag, I'm not sure there is a uniform the Americans could wear that would be totally exclusive. That's kinda tough with all the countries in the world.

I like the diagonal sash, and it has historic connotations - 1950 World Cup. My vote would be to make that our official home jersey. The royal blue pinstripe thing is an abomination.

This one - pretty sweet...

Question about GK uniforms. Why are they sometimes a random different in color to the team colors? I know somtimes its personal style, but sometimes its team kits. For instance, Why are the US keepers in Bright Green? (not say, Red, when the field players are in blue or white)
Maybe for the next Q&A.

Oh, and I vote for the vertical sash as our trademark, as on our white kits. Put it on navy blue too.

ives,
do you think mls will ever follow the Uefa in any european player is not a foiern player.... for example any concacaf player would not be considered as a SI.... i think that would improve the league
or
with the DP rule.... that rule should be with out side concacaf players.... for example all concacaf players can get (DP money) but parts of the DP rule will be in place the max on the salery cap will be 400k and the player would be payed lets say 1 million or more.... so for concacaf players we wouldnt have to waist DP slots for players like claudio reyna and donavon and blanco and etc.... i think that would make our league a lot better in euality and for super liga and the concacaf champions cup we would have a big advantage in our region
what do think

I really like those reds with the diagonal sash. And John O'Brien where have you gone!!??

How about the red "Don't Tread" top (click on my name for link)?
Posted by: Derek (Brooklyn) | October 25, 2007 at 10:07 AM
I'd like to see it with white shorts but it is an attractive shirt with a nice connection to US soccer history.

I think MLS should make the rules for Toronto the same as the rest of the teams - US players are domestic, Canadians and all others are international. That would be best for US soccer. I don't see why MLS should have rules in place to help develop Canadian soccer.
I also like the red Don't Tread kits. Very classy. I don't like the royal blue pinstripes either.

Who is number 13 in the uniform link above? Jimmy Conrad? That looks like a picture with our A team at some point in time so I am not sure that's him in the picture.

lakaix15, UEFA does that because they are not legally allowed to differentiate between countries. It is illegal for them to say you can only have Italian or English players. In that sense, the EU is seen as the county and it is a domestic player rule.
Posted by: CentralCoaster | October 25, 2007 at 01:22 PM
Yea that's Jimmy Conrad. The game was part of the Send-Off series leading up to the 2006 World Cup.

Thanks for answering my question Ives.

Ives,
There is talk of Guzan being scouted by Arsenal.
Unless he has a European passport somewhere (Howard was Hungarian, Hahnemann German and so on), how can he get a work permit? I'm sure he hasn't played enough games to qualify unless there are exceptions for goalkeepers (and there should be).
