Steve Nash interested in buying Tottenham?
NBA star Steve Nash has been linked to a potential ownership bid for struggling EPL squad Tottenham. Nash downplayed the rumors on Wednesday but did admit he liked the idea of owning Spurs.
Here's a question. What do you think of the idea of Nash owning an MLS club? Could he lead an ownership group for a second Canadian city, or maybe a Phoenix franchise? Yes, I know, a real longshot, but whenever you have a multi-millionaire with ties to the United States, who happens to love soccer, isn't it natural to ask the MLS ownership question?
What do you think of the idea of someone like Nash buying into MLS? Share your thoughts below.

I think its a great idea if he is interested in MLS. Vancouver (think he is from BC) or Phoenix would be ideal.

Since he lives in Brooklyn, why doesn't he front a bid for a second NYC team? I think Nash's involvement with MLS would be terrific, specifically with the respect and profile he would bring the sport in urban areas dominated by basketball. Wouldn't it be great to throw futsal-type goals on basketball courts throughout the inner cities and see the game grow in African-American communities?
Kids growing up imitating NBA stars and being mesmerized by And 1 exhibitions could be turned on to Brazilian flair and the Ronaldinho's and Thierry Henry's of the world. One of my favorite videos is the Joga Bonito video with Henry playing streetball with street kids. Think of how that would affect the US Men's game in the future, creativity-wise.

would be good for the MLS to have a recognizable face around. Surely he'd bring enthusiasm as well.

Maybe he wants a reasonable return on the investment, though.
I see more Tottenham jerseys around NYC than Metro or RB ones.

Think he'll sign his bro to a contract over there? lol. The Whitecaps are nasty . . .

I'd love to see Nash as an MLS owner. His enthusiaum would be great.
I don't get why this made such a splash in the UK news. I guess it's just their tabloid-style reporting. A rich, lifelong 'Spurs fan admitting he would entertain the idea of investing in the club. Wow!

We in Phoenix are working on getting a team here. There is definitely progress, and a viable market - contrary to some opinions. We have enough of a fan base to compete with most MLS teams. I think it would be great if Steve is in the ownership group (or by himself) that would bring a team to Phoenix.

It would be nice, but does he have that kind of money? He is definately rich, but not own a team rich. Unless he nailed the stock market or something.

AJ - He might have enough to put up for an MLS expansion team, especially if he takes on a couple of partners. I thought the fee was somewhere in the area of $35 million? Can anyone confirm this?

He still plays, right? I don't follow Basketball. Think I'd wait on his involvement with MLS until after he's done with his own pro career.

Mark Cuban would be better. I would love to see Mark's reactions to some of our referee's calls. He would also raise the profile of the league.

Being a Canadian and his brother playing off and on for the national team i think IF (a monstrous IF) he did start a team itd be in Vancouver, i highly doubt hed do it in the states. Itd be dope to get another Canadian team involved but that frankly isnt going to happen for a long while (and will doubtfully involve Nash)

ditto on mark cuban. we need a high-profile asshole.
either that, or lalas has to try to hire mo johnston off-and-on again, a la billy martin.

Cuban may be a high profile a$$hole, but he's far smarter and more tolerable than Lalas will ever be.

Well then you thought wrong Kid Capri. I was a day late but found it on ESPN. The only blogs I check out with any frequency are Goff's and The Big Lead.

Is Phoenix ready for the MLS?
Maybe in 2012 when the thousands of youth soccer players in the Valley are grown.

Uhhhhhhh is there any way to watch the Arsenal-Man U match?!?!?! Jeez FSC . . .

Above all Nash and many American investors want to make money. The reason guys like Glazer Gillette and Lerner have invested in EPL squads was to make money. They know European footy is going to make them money while trying to raise and MLS squad albeit noble is in the end going to be a money draining investment.

The only problem with the Canadian team theory is that Vancouver and Montreal both have billionaire USL-1 owners, plus Gillett in Montreal. I think one of the US destinations is more viable, or asa minority partner up north.

I would certainly love for Nash to own an MLS team. He's a big soccer fan and knows MLS. He wouldn't just be in it for the money. He still loves to play soccer. He's been a big Tottenham fan his whole life. It'd be good for MLS if he were involved somehow.

It would be good for football if Steve Nash were to invest.
