From the 'Haven't I heard this someplace before' department comes news that the Red Bulls are set to begin construction on Red Bull Park. The Star Ledger is reporting that the club is set to begin building Red Bull Park next week. Yes, Red Bull Park is the same stadium that was supposed to be finished by next summer. The club is now aiming for a target completion of summer of 2009.
So what's the difference between this and a groundbreaking? Well, if you were Red Bull would you want to announce another groundbreaking? Let's face it, another groundbreaking or two on the Harrison stadium project and the Red Bulls may open the stadium playing in the Chinese Premier League by the time it's actually finished.
So will the stadium actually be built by summer of 2009? Red Bulls managing director Marc deGrandpre was confident that it would be when asked at MLS Cup. I know the club's prime objective is to have it done by summer of 2009, now whether that vision becomes a reality remains to be seen.
If you are wondering what the stadium will look like, the renderings being circulated look very similar to Woerthersee Stadium in Austria, one of the host stadiums for the Euro 2008 Tournament:

It's finally happening! Thanks Red Bull!

Whats the name of Salzburg RB's stadium?

Bullen Arena

I like that deGrandpre is so bullish on the completion date guarantee.
No matter how many times this stadium project has let MLS fans down, it is hard not to remain excited about the end of matches at the Swamp.

COMPLETELY off topic, sorry NYRB fans but is there any player more likeable than Kaka? I think not.

I like the artists rendering better than the actual thing...can't we just live in a digitally altered world....that picture is AMAZING

Red Bull is so lucky that it's from Europe. AEG made promises too and were quickly panned for them. Amazing that fans will so easily give RB a pass.

Ives, do you know anything about a tournament MLS might be planning involving A-League and J-League teams? There are a few vague rumors about it floating around.
And sorry if I got up your nose a bit on the CL thread. I meant no offense.

kaka likable? he's a member of christian athlete outreach. they preach constantly in locker rooms and try to recruit people to their super crazy evangelical armageddonist beliefs. there is nothing nice about that. on the contrary, it's pretty awful.

THANK YOU RED BULL GOD lol
we've all waited for this for too long and its finally gonna happen

Well 2 good pieces of news out of this: 1) They are starting construction - so the end seems to be getting nearer and 2) No concert stage at and end of the stadium. Is it just me or does anyone else expect Spinal Tap and puppet show to come on during halftime of every Dallas, Chicago, etc (insert any crappy MLS stadium with a stage behind one goal that ruins atmosphere here) game.

BTW - did anyone else try going to Redbullpark.com and notice that teh website is also under construction? Hopefully, that is a sign they are updating it with new design pics and info.

6 to 9 days!!!

Say it with me folks: 12 to 18 is the new 60 to 90.
Seriously, is that most of you are brainwashed or is it that you are all a fresh crop of Red Bulls fans who have only followed the team for a short while? All the happiness over this announcement is a little surreal. What is it that they say about those who ignore the past?

Yo Ives, you know they released new renderings, check em out on MF.
Posted by: gro | November 28, 2007 at 08:19 PM
the new renderings show a stadium that looks nothing like RB Salzburg's stadium. If you want an idea of what the stadium will look like, search for pics of Woerthersee stadium in Klagenfurt, Austria. It's one of the venues for Euro 2008 and looks identical to the newly released renderings for RB Park in Harrison.

Ives,
off topic, ESPN Deportes is reporting that Mexican Side Monterrey is close to obtaining Donovan's services (i doubt it) any truth to those rumors.
Posted by: Angel | November 28, 2007 at 08:41 PM
Angel, that is one bad rumor, how can ESPN deportes even report that? And how can anyone think there is any truth to that rumor? Ludicrous.

Congrats NY. Maybe they'll get it done before KC or SJ gets their stadium built. :-)

Here's a website in English that describes the Hypo Group Arena in Klagenfurt, Austria.

Kaka is a classy guy, he doesnt preach any radical things, he preaches the truth. What negative thing is he saying, who is he hurting, if anything he is a positive role model for the youth.
