The Red Bulls are set to announce the completion of their purchase of AEG's share of the Red Bull Park stadium project. Yes, finally.
This should pave the way for Red Bull to begin construction of Red Bull Park, at least in theory. As you know from reading SBI, the project is facing some issues that should delay the project. One Red Bulls official told me my new timetable for the project was inaccurate. It will be interesting to see if the club presents its fans with a new timetable for the project.
What do you think of the news? Happy? Indifferent? Saving any response for after you see some concrete and metal? Share your thoughts below.

Well, Ives, what is RB's ultimate vision for possible timetables? I'll assume we shouldn't ask for specifics.

Great news, cause ANY news is great news at this point.

Indifferent.
I will not get involved emotionally again until I see foundation concrete being poured. Then maybe...

I know that in 60-90 days I'm really going to be excited

We've been hearing "news" for over 7 years. Hell with the news, I want results.
Thanks again Ives

Great news, now show me the concrete/steel...

Neutral observer here -
But I have to consider this good news. AEG gas never been soccer-first. It's all about the stage for outdoor concerts. Red Bull completing the purchase and designing a stadium first and foremost for soccer shows their continued commitment to growing the franchise and MLS.
Whenever the dam thing opens, I'm heading East to catch a game. (Quakes, of course.)

I'm with everyone else, once I see foundation pictures similar to the ones out in Sandy, UT it is hard to believe any timetables that they say. That being said, it's good to know that Red Bull finally bought out AEG. The eventual stadium will certainly benefit from having an owner that is more focused on football instead of dual purpose, playing surface/concert venue.

This is from an outsider's perspective, but it's pretty funny that they are so hush-hush with information and a timetable, but if you venture a guess, they're quick to tell you that your wrong.

For this, http://www.metrofanatic.com/story.jsp?ID=4705, I wait patiently till 2010.
Posted by: sublicon | November 16, 2007 at 02:41 PM
I am with sublicon on this one. According to Metrofanatic, the stadium will have real grass, no stage, and front rows seven yards from the touchlines. This sounds like a slight upgrade from Giants Stadium. 2010 is fine with me.

2010 is fine...
...if you believe them.
Posted by: Tom | November 16, 2007 at 04:35 PM
Jesus H. Christ himself could announce the stadium will be built in {fill in time as appropriate} and I would not believe it until, like I said before, I see Abby Okulaja blowing calls in it ...

Not sure I believe any timetable for this stadium. It has been ongoing for so long. I will only believe it when the stadium is up and the Red Bulls are playing against somebody in the stadium.
Fool me once, shame on you
Fool me twice, shame on me :)

They still have 2009 as the official opening year even when we know it's very difficul. Does this mean, "ok now we can begin construction" or "ok now we can re-design the stadium AND sometime in '08 begin construction"?
They can be honest and tell us 2010; we will patiently wait.

Show me the concrete and metal, I won't believe it till I see it.

Agree with many of the other posters. I take the train by the site every day, and until I look out the window and see the foundation being poured, then I'll believe it.
But it is good news that now Red Bull can change the design of the stadium for what I hope will be for the better.

The running joke in my family is to see a soccer game in the new park before me or my father kicks the bucket. He's 63 and I'm 37. We were never serious but the joke seems creepier and creepier with every passing year. This is one of the many reasons we would consider jumping ship if a Philly team is born. Of course all we really want is an MLS Cup--maybe that'll be for my grandchildren...

I'm on the West Coast, but I'm pleased that construction will get underway soon. I hate to see MLS not have a legit SSS in the largest market in the U.S. I hope RBNY continues to improve because it's good for the league that I love.

at least its getting somewhere........ I just want it to get started already.....the worst thing is for the project to stay at a standstill so i`m glad this is completed. Now on to the construction hopefully.

This is great news. Red Bull is committed to constructing a state-of-the-art soccer specific stadium; despite the many things that AEG has done for soccer in this country, it never had the same level of commitment to this franchise/stadium. Only wished it could have happened sooner but this is again great news.

A) I'll believe it when I'm actually in it.
B) If the team had been better over the years, fans would be less frustrated about the ground problem. A winning team in GS would be better than a losing team in our own stadium. But a losing team in GS - that's the real problem.
