Pantyhose: dead or alive?

Yeah, I know that pantyhose sales have been plummeting in the past few years. I know the bare-leg look reigns. I know my 18-year-old daughter and her friends will wear leggings or even funky tights, but would rather stick pins in their eyes than wear pantyhose.

And yet I was not the only shopper mobbing the pantyhose tables at Nordstrom's Half Yearly Sale last week. In fact, there was a steady stream of us baby-boomer pantyhose wearers, some rifling through the selections for the pale beige, linen and nude tones, others picking up pre-ordered bags full of the stuff. Obviously, they're still gracing the legs of many North Jerseyites.

One fellow shopper asked a very young sales associate whether black, blue and ecru hose would ever again be in fashion. She nodded enthusiastically. "Oh yes," she said. "Hold onto the ones you have because they are definitely coming back."

Another sign that hose may be not so washed up: Spanx, the current "IT" brand, makes them, as do  premium design houses such as Donna Karan and Calvin Klein. So maybe I'm not so out of step after all.

As I man, I think pantyhose look HOT on women. I am really bummed out how many women wear nice outfits and ditch hose now a days. No hose is sexy in certain outfits, but in the workplace it just looks like the woman is unfinished and I do not find it sexy at all. Many men have written about this online I found. Put your hose back on ladies. You would be surprised, many men like to see women in hose, at least sometimes.

I can only hope that pantyhose are on the way back. I too see so many women in otherwise sexy outfits and even heels but have left the pantyhose off. All I can think is How sexy she could have been. The Pantyhose or Stockings most certainly finish the look. Put on your pantyhose ladys.

Reading this article 18 months later, it is clear that pantyhose have come back. Although they never left my wardrobe (yes, even skintones), for reasons stated above (finished, professional look). Its nice to know that femininity still lives.
