Shockey to Saints
Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports TE Jeremy Shockey finally has been traded to the Saints for a No. 2 and No. 5 draft pick, providing he can pass the Saints physical.
And a Giants source has conformed the deal will happen barring a last-second snag.
So ends the Giants career of the man who broke into the league with a blaze of glory as a downfield receiver, but then tailed off as foot and leg injuries deprived him of some speed.
The Saints have been interested in Shockey since the draft, but couldn't come top terms with the Giants on a deal. But after Shockey openly cussed the Giants for some of their dealings with him, and had his blow-up with GM Jerry Reese during the June minicamp, he lost much of the support he had from teammates in the locker room. Reportedly no one wanted to room with him in training camp this summer.
So now he's gone and the Kevin Boss/Darcy Johnson/Michael Matthews tight end era begins with the Giants.
