Shanoy-win
BOYS TENNIS
Just wanted to revisit the big win by Edgar Shanoyan of Pascack Hills on Monday. Shanoyan defeated Luke Granger of Northern Highlands, 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (13-11).
Granger won the Bergen County Group 3-4 title and Bergen all-groups title last year. Shanoyan was runner-up in Bergen Group 1-2.
Shanoyan fell down 3-0 quickly in the first set and Hills coach Eric Ganz thought it was over. It appeared that way when Shanoyan trailed 5-2 in the second set, but the senior won 8 straight games to win the set and take a 3-0 lead in the third.
Then Granger won 4 straight games to take a 4-3 lead. Shanoyan led 5-4, then 6-5, but Granger got it to a tiebreaker.
And what a tiebreaker it was. Shanoyan fought off at least four match points to finally win the breaker, 13-11.
Both Shanoyan and Granger will be among the top seeds at the County tourney. Joining Granger I suspect will be Freddie Rozenshteyn of Fair Lawn, Daniel Sauter of Don Bosco and Adriel Borshansky of Ridgewood. Others to consider would be Christian Carcione of Ramapo, Stan Yakoff of Fort Lee and Michael Luo of Demarest.
Joining Shanoyan in Group 1-2 will be Daniel Shutov of Dwight-Englewood, Dan Ruiz of New Milford and Lukas Pospisil of Wallington.
Next up for Shanoyan is Carcione on Wednesday. Then Carcione and Ramapo will travel to Fair Lawn to see Freddie and the Cutters on Friday.
