Biggest game of the day goes to Nicole Linder of IHA, who cranked and crushed her way to a 299 in the Blue Eagles second game against Nutley at Bowler City. Check out the weekly bowling notebook in Thursday's Record to find out which pin Linder left standing and how she was feeling as she stepped up to the lane with perfection on the line. By the way, IHA's four bowlers totaled 941 pins in that game.
Tom Maggio of DePaul also did some cranking and crushing -- three games worth. The DePaul bowler shot a mammoth 788 series on Monday that included a 278 high game. Actually, a series like that doesn't have a low game, just three high ones. Unless somebody snuck one in when we weren't looking, that is the high series of the season in North Jersey.
A few more big scores from the NNJIL:
Steven Patchen of Bergen Tech showed that Kristina Szalay is quickly becoming one of the top coaches in North Jersey. Patchen had a 278 high game in a 747 series. Some quick math says that's a 249 average. Teammate Andy Lewis shot games of 246 and 233 on the way to a 666 series. Bergen Tech bowlers produced 10 200 games in a 7-0 victory over St. Joseph on Monday.
Perrin DeFreitas of Hackensack with a 278 high game and a 674 series; Mike Bierach of Clifton had a 266 high game; Teddy Failla of Paramus Catholic rolled a 254 high game and a 627 series. Teammate Virgil Rosen shot a 247; Michael Maresca of St. Joseph had a 245 game.
On the girls side, Lauren Rhein of IHA had games of 225 and 221 on her way to a 616 series. Teammate Grace Capone had a 225 game; Sonja Shirak of Clifton shot a 244 and 204 on the way to a 642 series. Raeanne Gratta of Paramus Catholic rolled a 213.
Over in the NBIL, Kyle Landau of Ramsey had the high game of the day with a 267 and wound up with a 438 series for two games. Bryan Kist of Pascack Hills fired a 245 game on the way to a 447 series.
The BCSL National saw a couple of big numbers put up by Mike Wuhrman of Park Ridge. Wuhrman shot a 257 and 249 for a 506 series in two games. Michael Viola of Bogota had a 258-202 for a 462 series. Matt Priore of North Arlington shot a 233 in a 462 series. Nick Roman of Wood-Ridge rolled a 243 game.
The BCSL American was led by Nick Gavron of Queen of Peace, who had the high game (247) and high series (462) of the day. Yes, that's a two-game series. Chris Hopkins of Tenafly was his usual steady self with a 221-217-438. Nick Keim of Ridgefield Park had a 425 series and Jimmy Rivers of Westwood rolled a 423.
It wasn't a day for huge scores in the BPSL. Jon Rizzi of Pompton Lakes shot a 236 high game and a 433 series in two games. He was the only bowler to shoot above 400. Devon DeJong of eastern Christian had a 228. Shaun Cairns of Manchester rolled a 225.
The Northern Hills Conference saw its usual number of high scores. Besides Maggio, Brian Ball of Butler shot a 248 high game and a 685 series. Right behind him was Corey Burtwell of Passaic Tech, who rolled a 673 with a 266 high game;
On the girls side, freshman sensation Colette Malyack continued to crush pins, firing a 667 with a high game of 244. Damaris Duarte of Passaic Tech shot a 204.
FYI, Linder won the Singles Classic over the weekend (which you probably found out from talking to her, but there it is just in case). The Record's been fairly good at printing league scores, but I haven't seen much from these early season tournaments in the weekend papers. Que pasa?

Right you are, NJBRG. I was saving that for the notebook on Wednesday, along with a brief recap of the tournament. Sometimes the blog is like a soap opera. You have to have a tease or a cliffhanger to get the people coming back for more. We would have run the results in Sunday's paper, but they were never sent to us. I'd be happy to post them here if someone wants to send them over to me at Leonard@northjersey.com
