The Under-17 UGALS American Division softball final between Wyckoff (Ramapo) and Paramus has been postponed because of rain. It will be played Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Bergenfield Little League complex. I'm not sure what this does to the National Division, which was scheduled to have its final on Thursday night.
Just got back from the first round of the UGALS playoff, um, American Division 17 and under (the American is considered the real varsity division and the National the JV). I went to River Vale to see Pascack Valley against Bergenfield, the 3 seed vs. the 6 seed. What a nice field and I had a nice spot in the shade.
I covered my first Little League games last night in Lyndhurst (just ask Hofsaes, I sat next to him). It was a lot of fun watching the young guys go at it. Tough way for Garfield to go down in the bottom of the seventh, but what an intense game.
I know the state Little League softball tournament begins Friday, Greg Schutta will be there. So will Pequannock. I have some other softball news and notes from the past week or so.
This weekend (starting tonight) is the 3rd Blazer Bash PONY National qualifier Blazer Bash. I will be watching the West Milford Extreme tonight at 6 p.m. as the seeding round begins.
Spent a few days on vacation at the shore, catching up on some resting, reading and relaxing. The summer softball notebooks start this week, and any coaches who wish to contact me can at cooperd@northjersey.com
This weekend is the Blazer Bash in Ridgewood. The biggest summer softball event in Bergen County, 24 teams total (12 each U-16 and U-18). Pool play begins Friday at 6 p.m. and goes through Sunday with the finals at 4:30 p.m.
BREAKING NEWS: just heard that the National federation of High Schools has adopted 43 feet as the pitching distance starting with the 2010-2011 academic year. Individual states can vote to enact it starting in 2009-2010. So we will have to see what the NJSIAA decides to do. But wow, this is a change that has been talked about for a long time.
