I had the opportunity to escape from realignment HE-double hockey sticks for a day to see one of the most entertaining ties you're going to see in boys soccer Friday.
Clifton and Bergen Catholic, both unbeaten, played to a 1-1 tie in Oradell. Clifton's Victor Manosalvas wowed the Clifton fans with a gorgeous direct kick from the left sideline about 35 yards out off the far post and in for the Mustangs' goal, and junior Danny Pinto gave the home fans something to smile about by burying a header off a Marcelo Escudero kick with less than four minutes left in regulation to salvage the tie.

With the sun high and the humidity low Tuesday, I decided it was a good time to dig myself out from under a pile of soccer previews and poke my head out of the Batcave long enouth to watch a big-time scrimmage between defending Group 1 State champion Harrison and returning Group 4 State finalist Clifton on Harrison's huge artificial turf field.
But befoe I get into the details of the scrimmage, won by Harrison, 2-1, a word from our sponsor. Keep an eye out for The Record and Herald News fall sports previews for football and boys and girls soccer beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8.
The boys soccer preview is scheduled to run Wednesday, Sept. 9 and you should be "swept" away when you see it.
Now, click below for the details of Tuesday's scrimmage.

Welcome to the high school boys’ tennis blog. Like everybody else at The Record, I will do my best in this blog to give you the five things I am looking forward to this spring. But first, I think I should introduce myself.
My name is Greg Schutta, and while I may be a newcomer to the beat, I’m not a newcomer to the game of tennis.
My family has been playing the game since I was in kindergarten, and my parents (both long ago retired) still play regularly on the clay courts in their community just north of Lake George, and I will hit with them on occasion when I go up to visit. The annual doubles tournament on the Fourth of July is always a pip.

Vinny Fava of Elmwood Park and Ryan Dunphy of Passaic Valley each made the most of their second chance, each winning in the consolation round to finish third in the state.
Don Bosco's Nick Vetterlein waits in the wings at 189.

The clock is ticking. Less than 12 hours before the first whistle at Boardwalk Hall.
For those of you heading down or those of you already down in AC, check below for a copy of the State wrestling weight-by-weight preview which ran today in The Record.
You'll see lists of local qualifiers, returning medalists and my picks for who I think will win - like that isn't going to spur any controversy.
Last year I went down in flames, as most reporters did last year, with just 8 out of 14 correct. Let's hope this year is a little better.

It's bright and early here in Hackensack, but we're just 15 minutes away from wrestling in the Region 2 semifinals.
Nearly 60 wrestlers are out on the mats, walking, jogging or just jawing with each other, preparing for a match that with a win would guarantee them that golden ticket to Atlantic City.
The semifinals begin at 10 a.m. with the consolations beginning at 4 p.m. and the finals to follow beginning about 5:30.
Stay tuned right here. The Record will blog through the semifinals and this evening through the consolations and finals.
