Learning from the pros

WAYNE - The kids attending Wayne Hills' Back to Basics football camp were rewarded with a real treat Thursday.

For Chicago Bears tight end Greg Olsen, son of Wayne Hills coach Chris Olsen, to come back to his alma mater was one thing. When Olsen’s agent Drew Rosenhaus, Bears teammate Brian Urlacher and former Giants linebacker Jessie Armstead also showed up, that was a different story.

State thoughts

BOYS TENNIS

When I was looking for a State sectional final to attend Monday I inadvertently may have found a way to get to see part of three of the six finals involving North Jersey teams that is still friendly on the gas tank.

Speaking of which, I'll have to fill up on the way home tonight. There goes another $43.50.

But back to the tennis.

Highlands tops Ramapo

BOYS TENNIS

Since there was no room in Friday's paper and since it apparently hasn't shown up on northjersey.com, here is the story I wrote on Northern Highlands upsetting Ramapo on Thursday. I also included a little on Englewood's upset of Tenafly.

Keep in mind these are unedited, so forgive me if they aren't up to The Record standards.

Bergen Seeding Meeting

BOYS TENNIS

The time has almost arrived. At about 6:30 tonight the tennis coaches will meet with Bergen County Coaches Association tennis rep Todd Meyer, the athletic director at Ramapo, to determine how the tournament will be seeded.

There are many opinions on this subject and a few suggestions that are interesting. I'm not sure there is a perfect solution, but I'm curious to see what they come up with.

Shanoy-win

BOYS TENNIS

Just wanted to revisit the big win by Edgar Shanoyan of Pascack Hills on Monday. Shanoyan defeated Luke Granger of Northern Highlands, 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (13-11).

Granger won the Bergen County Group 3-4 title and Bergen all-groups title last year. Shanoyan was runner-up in Bergen Group 1-2.

Ely has come alive. She scored 6 points in the third quarter as Valley has pulled within 7. Trenton leads 35-28 at the end of three.

Ely hits her third 3-pointer and follows with another field goal as Valley ties the score, 39-39. Alexis Sweet answers for Trenton and Trenton leads 41-39 with 2:40 remaining.

Record shoot-around

The Jambo may be over and most of the lights are off. But Greg Mattura has found a basketball. I feel for the staff at FDU.

Mark Czerwinski and Record photog Tyson Trish have joined the fun. Mark's not bad for an outdoorsman. Tyson shoots better with the camera, but he can hold his own.

IHA-Pascack Hills

GIRLS BASKETBALL
