Instant Replay
By a 25-5 vote, at baseball's general managers meeting in Orlando, the GMs have approved limited use of instant replay, though this is subject to the Commissioner's blessing and isn't expected to be implemented until 2009.
Our Brian Cashman voted strongly in favor of instant replay on fair/foul balls, and questionable home runs. Of course, Bud (best interests of baseball) Selig, office occupier during the Steroid Era and lord of the ludicrous unbalanced schedule, is said to be unsure of the use of replay - mainly because it delays games.
Has Bud ever seen the umpires convene to get a call right? Is he familiar with the two arguments that usually happen as a result of such controversy (one manager protests the call, and one or the other protests the result)? A conclusive replay would sort of prevent that now, wouldn't it?
Sorry, but Selig drives me to distraction. Anyway, Cash will doubtless be meeting with the Levinsons to discuss Posada (they also have Mike Lowell as a client), but this seems like a long free agency for the Yanks' receiver - especially if the Mets go hard, which they appear willing to do.
If the Mets envision Posada as a potential first baseman in the last year or two of a four-year deal ($60 million?), then the Yanks must have that idea too. Posada might finally be open to such talk, but only after two more years. But a willingness to play first base extends his market appeal to NL clubs.
And speaking of 'Instant Replay,' Curt Schilling re-signed with the Red Sox.
