RHP Phil Hughes: Struck out 10 in five innings, and allowed two hits to win his final Arizona Fall League start. After a rough beginning, he finished at 2-0, 3.00, in 30 IP (21 H, 13 BB, 38 K).
RHP Ian Kennedy: At Puerto Rico, he walked five and gave up two runs on two hits in his last start (5 IP), with 2 Ks. In three starts, opponents are batting .190, but he's walked nine in 12.2 IP.
OF Melky Cabrera: At the Dominican Winter League, he's batting .346 (9-26) with five RBI in seven games.
LHP Andrew Brackman: At Hawaii, finished tied for third in HWL with 36 Ks in 34 IP.
LHP Jeremy Bleich: Went 3-2 at Hawaii, and led all Yankees starters with a 1.77 ERA, over 35.2 IP.
RHP Kevin Whelan: At Arizona, reliever had a 2.08 ERA, with 21 K, 11 H, and 4 ER in 17.1 IP. Opponents hit just .175 vs. him.
1B Juan Miranda: At Arizona, had a .658 slugging average (7 doubles, 2 triples, 5 HR) and did not record an error in nine games.
I personally am looking forward to maybe having Hughes for a full season(finally) and seeing what the kid has over a full 7 months.
As for Ian Kennedy, well its not looking great for him if we do add 2 front of the rotation starters. Speaking of which, i heard on Sportscenter that the Angels have given up on Texiera and are going for CC. If this is true, i think the Yanks need to forget CC and move on to maybe AJ Burnett(he still scares me with his injury history) and Derek Lowe. I also think they should look to make a move with Jake Peavy. Include Kennedy in the deal and see where that takes us.
Pete Caladera, thanks for all the good coverage, and i will keep checking over for more updates and i hope you and your family have a great Holiday. Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy your bird!

Thanks, PJ. Happy Thanksgiving to you too.
With these Boras clients, we shouldn't expect any early signings, or any all-out declarations from teams saying they are out. Everyone has a Plan B, and this market will start to take shape when the first big player goes off the board. I'm thinking Lowe goes first, then Burnett, then -- CC and Teixeira.

i am not SOO enthused about CC, is he a good pitcher.... yeah, but his build reminds me Irabu, and as i recall, his weight became an issue and also lead to some knee problems. I think we could expect the same from CC down the road. It wouldn't suprise me if we did not get him, and i wouldn't be heart broken about it either. I think our best options would be to get Lowe, and trade for Peavy

I think a lot of people feel the same way about CC. You wouldn't be hearbroken not to see him in pinstripes next year. Yankees fans should be more upset that they let Santana get away. Sabathia's build is legitimate question when talking long-term, big bucks. You worry about his knees, and all those innings already logged. The Brewers, with good reason, used him to the max this year. And CC's Octobers haven't been so stellar.

i agree, i would like to see the yanks bring in someone with some sort of October Pedigree. Thats why i like Peavy, he did take the Padres pretty far into the playoffs on 2 occasions that i can remember. I just think that it could be trouble down the road with Sabathia if he gets a knee injury down the road, because without those healthy knees to support that big frame of his, he could easily lose 5-10 MPH and that could be the difference between being dominant and just good. And lets face it for the kind of money and time were throwing out to CC, you expect dominance

Are any of these guys having a decent year in 2009 yet? Cabrera likely figures big into NY's plans and you would think Hughes would, as well.
