Woodall Selects Pitt; Hurley Sees "New World" in Recruiting

Travon_1Paterson’s Travon Woodall has been leaning toward announcing his college decision for about a month now. He made it official on Wednesday.

The 6-foot, 186-pound junior combination guard from St. Anthony gave a verbal commitment to Pittsburgh head coach Jamie Dixon, and will play in the Big East.

“I thought it was the perfect place for me,” Woodall said by phone. “It’s not too far from home. It’s not too close, where I can’t grow up as a man and be out on my own. Me and (assistant coach) Mike Rice have known each other for a long time. We have a good relationship.”

Dick "Hoops" Weiss of the Daily News also has an article today on the New York pipeline to Pitt, manifested in guards Levance Fields and Ronald Ramon.

And for Coach Bob Hurley's take on the latest developments...

HURLEY SEEKS "NEW WORLD" IN RECRUITINGHurley_courtesy_usa_today

Bob Hurley has coached high school basketball for more than 30 years, but he said he's never had a kid commit during his junior season. Until this year - now he's had two.

"This is the new world," said Hurley, whose St. Anthony team is No. 4 in the USA Today Top 25. The logic is simple: commit early and you don't have to be bothered by college coaches and recruiting "experts" calling and text-messaging all the time. Plus, you can concentrate on improving your game and doing your schoolwork. Oh, and it's nice to get the press, too.

Hurley said he "wouldn't be surprised to see (6-2 guard) Mike Rosario commit next week." Rosario is looking at many of the same schools that courted Woodall -- Seton Hall, St. John's, Rutgers, Georgetown, Virgina Tech and Florida State.

"Everybody's intrigued," Hurley said. "He's a really good shooter and it's hard to find guys who can shoot the ball."

Jio_courtesy_playazbasketballorgJio Fontan (left), a 5-11 PG who lives with Woodall, could also make a decision soon. Oklahoma recently expressed interest and St. Peter's and Delaware have already offered.

6-3 Alberto Estwick could decide in the spring, and 6-1 Tyshawn Taylor as well.

"That will give us six juniors that probably at the end will have committed," Hurley said.

Welcome to the new world, coach.

Dear friends! What are you think about USD fall?
Do you know about China Goverment position in this situation?

WASHINGTON (AFP) - President George W. Bush on Wednesday said China would be "foolhardy" to attempt to push down the dollar in retaliation for US pressure over Beijing's alleged currency manipulation.
Bush said he had not seen the report that Beijing was hinting at such a move, in Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper, but warned against any attempt by Beijing to hit back at Washington using vast foreign currency reserves.
