Chris Pantale, a 6-foot-6 TE from Wayne Valley High School, keeps piling up the offers.
Pantale said he holds offers from Boston College, Michigan, Michigan State, Syracuse, Northwestern, NC State, Maryland, UConn, Cincinnati and UCLA. Rutgers has not shown interest, he said.
"My favorites would probably be Boston College, Virginia and Michigan," he said.
Pantale just returned from a trip to Michigan and Michigan State with his father, Bill.
"The coaching staff at both schools were great and the practice at State was very intense," Pantale said. "Coach (Mark) Dantonio has them really working with a lot of enthusiasm."
Pantale, also a forward on the Valley basketball team that last year reached the Passaic County and North 1, Group 3 finals, also got to meet with MSU hoops head coach Tom Izzo on his visit.
"He said what a great football fan he was, and we started talking about Wayne Valley basketball," Pantale said.
At Michigan, Pantale walked into the legendary Schembechler Hall and immediately felt the rich football tradition. He met with head coach Lloyd Carr and linebacker coach Steve Szabo, who said he sees Pantale as a strong side linebacker.
"Then I got a tour of the Big House, 107,000 seats," Pantale said. "It was unbelievable. The trip was really good for me to be able to help narrow my choices."
Pantale said he doesn't expect to decide until during or after the season.
There must be someone more deserving to feature in an article. Maneri should not even be allowed to play ball this Fall. Why doesn't somebody interview him about the Saddlebrook DQ assault?
Broke a guys jaw with a sucker punch, then fled with friends. What a hero!
Another role model in the making. Hope he gets everything he deserves.
