Stephenson to Visit Seton Hall

Lance_stephenson_use_this_2Lance Stephenson, one of the top players in the Class of 2009, will make an unofficial visit Saturday to the Seton Hall campus.

"We have a game at is8 (in New York) and then we're going up there," said Lincoln coach Dwayne "Tiny" Morton."

Lance's dad, Lance Sr., also said Lance has an unofficial visit planned to Indiana Oct. 12 for Midnight Madness. Mount Vernon senior forward Kevin Jones will also visit Indiana that same weekend, according to his older brother, Gerard.

Lance Sr. and Morton both listed the same group of schools as being in the mix at this point: Louisville, Memphis, North Carolina, Indiana, West Virginia, Georgetown, Seton Hall and St. John's. Morton is also friendly with Rutgers assistant Craig Carter.

"Lance is very wide open," Morton said.

Stephenson, whose nickname is "Born Ready," averaged 26 points and 10 rebounds last year at Lincoln and is the subject of a documentary film that could echo the one made about his former Lincoln teammate Sebastian Telfair, "Through the Fire."

Stephenson poured in a game-high 36 points and was arguably the most dominant player on the floor in the recent Boost Mobile Elite Classic at Rucker Park, a game that also featured Brandon Jennings, Tyreke Evans, Jrue Holiday, Samardo Samuels, Dexter Strickland, Kemba Walker and John Riek. He was named Co-MVP along with Jennings, Evans and Holiday.

"Athletically, he's good enough to play in the NBA right now," former NBA coach Paul Silas told the New York Post of Stephenson.

"There's so much more to the game. He still has to learn the mentality it takes to succeed at that level."

Who would have thought that a blog in New Jersey would be such a goldmine for Indiana recruiting information. Keep that East coast pipeline open!

All Bobby needs is one of these top recruits (Reke, Lance, etc) to commit and then SHU will start to become another "it" place for local kids to come to school.

Adam-

Glad the Hoosiers are keeping you busy....thanks for the coverage.

Hi Adam, any reason why Indiana is all of a sudden making an impact with New York City area athletes? Very interesting I like the type of player coach Sampson is bringing into Indiana. They will be exciting to watch. Any inside scoop on where Lance may land?

Stanley:
In addition to being a traditional national powerhouse, Indiana has assistant Rob Senderoff, a native of Spring Valley, NY, which may explain how they've come to be involved with New York-area players like Stephenson, Jones and Devin Ebanks, whom they landed.

To AC, who I assume is in Indiana - The Blog is where the players are coming from. Lots of talent in this area and Adam does a great job keeping us basketball adicts supplied with the information we need. We're hoping to keep more of the talent home in the future.
