Dominic Cheek, a 6-5 junior guard from St. Anthony in Jersey City, took an unofficial visit to North Carolina this past weekend for "Late Night With Roy" and said he really enjoyed it.
No commitment was made, however.
"I'm not trying to make no early commitment right now," he said by phone Sunday night. "I'm trying to wait."
Still, Cheek said North Carolina remained his "top choice" and that the visit went well.
"It went great," Cheek said. "It was nice down there. I went to the pep rally (Friday night) and the next day I went to the football game.
"I liked the campus. Everything was nice. The players treated me well. The coaching staff treated me well and everything."
Cheek spent time with Wayne Ellington and Danny Green, players he knew beforehand. Ellington and Cheek both play for the Playaz Basketball Club.
"They were showing me around the campus. talking to me about how (Coach Roy Williams) was as a coach. I was asking if I really should go there or not," Cheek said. "They were telling me I should."
Cheek is ranked No. 4 among shooting guards in the Class of 2009. He poured in 35 points and five 3-pointers last week in a win over Mookie Jones and Peekskill in the IS8 league. One highly influential and knowledgable AAU coach called Cheek a future "pro."
Cheek grew up a North Carolina fan and said he likes many aspects of the program.
"I like that they play on TV a lot," he said. "I like the style of play and I like the coach and all that and I know that it could get me to the next level and it will make me a better player."
Cheek had previously mentioned that he might also take a visit to Miami, but he said no plans have been made.
As for his potential future college, he said. "When I'm ready to commit, I'm going to commit."

Cheek should go to Villanova. Villanova is the best program around.
