Maryland Out of Thomas Stakes

Quintrellthomas6_25150Maryland, long thought to be a leader for the services of 6-8 St. Patrick forward Quintrell Thomas, is no longer in the running, according to Thomas' AAU coach, Derrick Bobbitt.

The Terps appear to be on the brink of getting a commitment from 6-10 combo forward Ater Majok, originally from the Sudan who has one year remaining at the American International School in Sydney, Australia. The Terps may opt to save their one remaining 2008 scholarship for 2009 and someone like 6-9 Greg Echenique of St. Benedict's.

That leaves Kansas, Rutgers and UNLV in the Thomas Sweepstakes. Bobbitt said no decision has yet been made, although Thomas said he expects to make one by the end of the week.

Kansas is also hoping to land 6-8 twins Marcus and Markieff Morris of APEX Academies, who are also considering Villanova.

Rutgers is looking at 6-8 PF Dwight Miller, who makes his official visit beginning tonight. But landing Thomas would represent a coup in that he is a talented player from the two-time Tournament of Champions winner, and a player the staff has targeted for some time.

Quintrell Thomas, I cannot stress this enough:

If your goal is to someday play in the NCAA tournament, you should NOT go to Rutgers.

Fred Hill will never have Rutgers in the NCAA tournament. Fred Hill is not a good coach. If you go to Rutgers, you will be setting the NIT as your highest goal.

Do not cheat yourself out of a college basketball career. Go to a school that has a chance of playing in the Dance. Avoid Rutgers at all costs.

Great post, RUoldschool.

Quintrell, when is the last time you have seen Rutgers in the NCAA Tournament? Are you even old enough to remember 1991? How about the last time they actually won a tourney game? Did your parents even have their driver's license in 1980?

If you go to Rutgers you are throwing away your college career. Avoid Rutgers at all costs.

Quintrell, if you want to play in the NCAA Tournament, do not go to Rutgers. Rutgers will not be playing any meaningful games anytime soon. Stay away from Rutgers.

I am glad we agree on this issue.

The best move for Mr. Thomas, if he wants to have a good college basketball career, is to avoid Rutgers.

You guys are correct. Rutgers is not a good basketball school, we don't have a good coach.

Why would this kid waste his basketball career at Rutgers?

Hey guys, Fred Hill isn't as bad as you all think. At least he looks like Bunsen Honeydew, and that is pretty funny. Not as big a joke as his college coaching skills, but still pretty funny.

You guys are pathetic. You are Rutgers alumni and you are telling recruits NOT to attend Rutgers?

We all know that Rutgers is not a place where top recruits go to school. We all know that Rutgers has a below average coach. But is there any reason why you insist on telling these kids that? Maybe this kid thinks that Fred Hill might be a good coach? Maybe this kid doesn't realize that Rutgers hasn't won a tourney game in over 25 years?

Seriously, I know many of you want Fred Hill fired, but you aren't going about this the right way.

RUinFLA, are you trying to say that Rutgers is a good choice for a college kid? Why on earth would any recruit ever opt to play for Rutgers? We have no exposure, our coach is bad, our program is in the gutter, we have a weak fan base and no tradition. What the heck do we have to offer?

Adam, why would this kid want to go to Rutgers if he has places like UNLV or Kansas to chose from? Kansas is a regular in the dance, and UNLV is a decent team that makes some noise from time to time. Rutgers is nothing.

Why would any kid go to a school where he has no shot at playing in the NCAA Tournament? Especially if that kid has options like UNLV or Kansas, two schools that do make the tournament?

As a fan of Big East basketball, I love reading this blog. My question is, why are supposed Rutgets fans trying to push kids away from an up and coming program like Rutgers?

Hey RUoldschool, have you ever thought that some kids might be happy with the NIT? Not all kids want to play in the NCAA Tournament. Let's hope that Thomas is one of these kids and that he goes to Rutgers.

John Reith, I think some of these Rutgers fans want Fred Hill fired. They don't like the way he is handling things on campus, and the way he called a 10-19 season a "success" a few weeks ago. They are hoping that Fred will get fired and a new coach, one who actually knows what he is doing, will replace him.

I think these guys are nuts. Fred Hill is not a good coach, but we are not going to get a great coach at Rutgers. Let's sit back and hope that Fred gets us into the NIT and then we can call it a great season.

!!!BIG SURPRISE-the TROLLS have up their boilerplate anti-RU cut & paste posting re-treads. In a funny way I'm almost honored that you silly litta fella(s) like(s) to pretend you're me. It means I'm getting inside your collective head(s?). It must be tight inside there with all your delusional characters going back & forth. It should be ok soon though; the men in white with butterfly nets are at the door.

Didn't you guys say the samething about the football team and there playing #2 South Florida on National TV tonight, and its the game of the week.

I have officially lost my mind when I strt writing numerous posts other people's handles just to try and persuade a high school kid not to attend Rutgers. O no the men in white coats are here!!

Adam, will you please answer this question:

Why would any recruit attend Rutgers?

Isn't a LOI to Rutgers pretty much the same as a recruit saying that they never want to play in the NCAA tournament?

I hope to see Quintrell on the Banks. Rutgers is both a great school academically and has the potential to be a powerhouse in D-I athletics. Just look at the RU Football program.

People shouldn't listen to the idiot troll who is posting on this blog. He obviously has no LIFE and is scared of Rutgers emerging as a basketball program. But, the RU men's bball will follow the lead of RU Football and RU women's basketball to become a power. That much is true. Look at the players FHJ already has inked in Chandler and Rosario. Getting QT would be huge now.

I hope Adam can do something to control the posts of this moron (the troll). It is ruining his great blog.

Dear Quintrell Thomas, I cannot stress this enough:

If your goal is to someday play in the NCAA tournament, I'm glad that you are considering Rutgers.

Fred Hill has proven experience in the Big East, the BE tourney and NCAA's. He was invaluable in assisting my alma mater Seton Hall to go from a small corner between East Orange and Newark to a team that took full advantage of being the only Big East team in the state of NJ for about two decades. Fred Hill is a genius. If you go to Rutgers, you will be setting the sky as your only limit as we see with the RU football. Big East competition, the Big Apple media, plenty of playing time opportunity, the number ONE rated school for student-athletes among all state universities nationwide….

It's good to see that you never even considered cheating yourself out of a college basketball career here at SHU. As long as GONZO's here we will never have a chance of playing in the Dance unless Rutgers throws us more of their recruit crumb rejects like-but much more talented than- Mike Davis. Commit to Rutgers at all costs. Tell Coach Hill we miss him and love him.

Great post, SHU-PID.
Quintrell, hopefully you did watch us the last time we were in the NCAA Tournament in ‘06? Remember it was right after the beating we took from RU in MSG. We never recovered and got b-slapped out of Rd 1. Are you even old enough to remember how sad we at Seton Hall were in the '80's when RU was invited to join the Big East and our phone calls to the commissioner went unreturned? How about how crazy our corner campus got when the foolish RU administration declined as Joe Paterno danced and juked around an all-sports power conference in the East? We don’t even know what an all-sports college is like. Anyway, your future children hopefully will have their driver's licenses by the time our Seton Hall ever returns to being respectable.

If you go to Rutgers you will be part of the waking giant in college sports and get a great degree to land you probably on Wall St. if pro ball doesn’t happen. Just look at how a couple of our SHU b-ballers ended-up after the NBA discarded them. Go to Rutgers at all costs.

Quintrell, if you want to play in the NCAA Tournament, do not go to Seton Hall. Seton Hall will not be playing any meaningful games anytime soon. Go to Rutgers.
I am glad that we all agree on this issue.
The best move for Mr. Thomas, if he wants to have a good college basketball career, is to commit to Rutgers right now.

You guys are correct. Rutgers is great school, with great coaches in all major sports. Why would this kid waste his time visiting GONZO?

Hey guys, GONZO isn't as bad as you all think. At least he looks like that old coach at Manhattan- and that is pretty funny. Not as big a joke as his Big East coaching skills, but still pretty funny. Who would have expected GONZO to take a borderline NCAA team and drive them down to the Big East gutter in only his first year?

You guys are pathetic. You are Seton Hall alumni and you are telling recruits NOT to attend da Hall?
We all know that Seton Hall’s lucky streak of being the only Big East school in NJ is over and not a place where top recruits go anymore. We all know that Rutgers has the best coach in the state. But is there any reason why you insist on telling these kids that? Maybe this kid thinks that GONZO might be a good coach? Maybe this kid doesn't realize that we will not win another tourney game in over 25 years?
Seriously, I know many of you want GONZO fired, but you aren't going about this the right way.

Seton Hall is not a good program, but Rutgers is bad too. We are in glass houses, we shouldn't throw stones.

SHUFLY, are you trying to say that Seton is a good choice for a college kid? Why on earth would any recruit ever opt to play for us? We have no exposure anymore-who in the media wants to go to the corner of Newark and East Orange-- our coach is bad, our program is in the gutter, we have a weak fan base and a faded tradition based on no in-state competition for almost twenty years. With Rutgers beating us down 3 out of the last 5 meetings, what the heck do we have to offer now?
Adam, why would this kid want to go to Seton Hall if he has places like St Joes or SJU to choose from? SJU once was a regular at the Dance and the other SJU is a decent team that makes some noise from time to time. Seton Hall is nothing.
