Miller to Pittsburgh

Dwightmiller8_1150Dwight Miller, a 6-8, 218-pound power forward out of Houston St. Pius X, has committed to Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon.

"I'm understanding that he has given the coaches (at Pitt) a commitment that he's interested in coming to school there," said Miller's advisor, Frank Rutherford.

Miller chose Pitt over numerous schools, including Rutgers, Temple, St. John's, Illinois, Kentucky and Arkansas. He replaces Darnell Dodson, a 6-7 forward who transferred after not being cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse.

Miller, a native of the Bahamas who has only played organized ball for about three years, joins a recruiting class that includes New Jersey guards Travon Woodall of St. Anthony and Ashton Gibbs of Seton Hall Prep, as well as forward Nasir Robinson of Chester, Pa.

"Dwight is a perimeter guy who obviously has great range on his shot," Rutherford said. "This kid is a perimeter player than can shoot it from long range. He can put it on the floor at a very successful level. He can defend ones through fives. He has an unbelievable post game. He rebounds and blocks shots very well, but he's not your typical back-to-the basket four man. This is a kid who can do it all."

"To me he's a three who can play the floor. By next year, he'll be a three/four that can play the one."

Miller trained last summer with NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon. Check out the video here.

"I can shoot the basketball. I got range," Miller previously told ZAGSBLOG. "A lot of people think of me as a defensive player, a rebounder. I can show people that I'm not just a post player. I can shoot it from anywhere."

Rutherford said he thought Pitt's style of play would be suited to Miller's game.

"From what I've heard from the coaching staff, (Pitt) definitely fits," Rutherford said. "The way they develop their three and four men, they look at them all as guards who play the perimeter. There's not a difference between a three and a four in their system. That's always going to be the attraction in guys who are 6-8, 240 pounds.

Rutgers had hoped that Miller might help its frontcourt situation, but Miller joins Quintrell Thomas (Kansas) as big men who opted to go elsewhere. Fred Hill's staff could opt to wait until the spring to use its remaining scholarship for the Class of 2008, or save it for next year.

Miller will get to test himself Friday against Georgetown-bound F Greg Monroe and Helen (La.) Cox High in the Texas Hoops Jamboree in Houston.

Good move by this kid by not throwing away his college career by attending Rutgers. Rutgers is a joke.

PhonyRUoldschool just the same pathetic Seton Hall dorm dwelling troll(s), but all could possibly be that same one litta fella troll rub-ball posting in through different IPs under various phony registration names, between shoe tying and animal sounds classes.
We real Seton Hall fans apologize for these trolls that hide under phony RU handles.

Rub-ball, essex knight and his classless fellow trolls and/or multiple personalities do not fool anybody with the phony RU posts. Really pathetic for them and real Seton Hall fans.

Thank you SHUpid for stepping up with the classy apology on behalf of our school here at the corner of Newark and East Orange.

Please rub-ball and the rest of you fellow Hallballers, please stop embarrassing us by reminding us of our faded history. Don’t keep reminding people that Seton Hall basketball is the new Syracuse of football in the Big East.

All honest SHU fans know that RU's Fred Hill has already upgraded recruiting for RU Hoops overall and outrecruited our little Seton Hall school at the corner of Newark & East Orange that should be entrenched by now in the Big East upper echelon after having no competition for 20 years for the local talent that wanted to stay home and play in the Big East.

Unfortunately this bozo rub-ball trolling as RU fans is making a bigger joke of us at Seton Hall. Please show some class and stop embarrassing the real Seton Hall guys.

Please rub-ball show some class and stop embarrassing the real Seton Hall guys. We at Seton Hall really have enough jokes to deal with being the new Syracuse of football in Big East basketball.

Oh well, he is one of ours at Seton Hall. At least he must have passed the shoe tying admissions test. Good news with Mike Glover still in NCAA Clearinghouse purgatory, his shoe-tying score will not be included in our team’s grade average.

But please, rub-ball, keep your troll turd off this site and where it belongs on the Seton Hall website message boards. Adam puts too much quality work into his blog and it would be refreshing if your troll turd stopped stinking it up.

Hey phony RUoldskool (aka rub-ball), are you trying to say that Seton Hall would have been a good choice for a college kid? Why on earth would any recruit ever opt to play for us? We have no exposure anymore-who in the media wants to go to the corner of Newark and East Orange--our coach is the laughingstock of the Big East, our program is in the gutter, we have a weak fan base and a faded tradition based on no in-state competition for almost twenty years.
With Rutgers beating us down 3 out of the last 5 meetings, what the heck do we have to offer now?

Smart move by this kid to ignore Coach Gonzo. Too bad Coach GONZO keeps wasting time and Seton Hall A.D. money on any decent recruits. He should stick with his 2** JUCO guys, or RU rejects like Mike Davis.

Adam, scout.com lists that RU did not offer Miller a scholly. If correct, any insight as to why no offer from RU?

Can anyone guess whether Miller's on the 5 or 6-yr graduation plan at Pitt?

RUrising,
My understanding was that RU did offer, and Rivals says as much. Frank Rutherford and Dwight said they had the option of attending RU, but decided otherwise.

Thanks Adam, not sure why scout.com lists no offer from RU.

It sounds like many of these H.S./prep forwards are picking colleges that sell them on developing a perimeter game (Miller to Pitt and Kevin Jones at WVa. for example).

Doesn't an inside power game make sense to these 6'7" and 6'8" kids anymore?? They all aren't going to be the next Lebron James or Scotty Pippen.

And Happy Thanksgiving.
