Landesberg Outduels Jackson; Saturday's Quick Hits
Virginia-bound G Sylven Landesberg of Holy Cross had 29 points and 20 rebounds Saturday as Holy Cross knocked off Boys & Girls, 78-73, in double-OT Saturday night in the Big Apple Challenge at Baruch College. Rutgers-bound SF Pat Jackson had an off night for the losers.
Our man Theo Rabinowitz of NYCHoops.net also reports on some controversial quotes by Cardozo coach Ron Naclerio referring to the transfer of sophomore guard Chris Hampton to Our Savior New American on Long Island.
A few quick hits from Saturday's college action:
**Derrick Caracter had 16 points and 7 rebounds and Earl Clark had 15 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks but Louisville lost at home to Dayton, 70-65, denying Cards coach Rick Pitino his 500th career victory. Lincoln star Lance Stephenson was in attendance at the game after sitting for Lincoln's game in the 2K Sports All-American Classic. Lance has now unofficially visited Seton Hall, USC, Indiana and Louisville, with North Carolina, Kansas, Georgetown and Memphis still upcoming.
**In Women's hoops, Camden native Rashidat Junaid had a career-high 15 points and 10 boards to lead No. 4 Rutgers over Army, 59-42, in the Maggie Dixon Classic a MSG.
Duke beat Pitt, 51-49, in the other game.
"Maggie Dixon was a young amazing coach, struck down in her prime," Stringer said. "The Maggie Dixon Classic speaks to great coaches and this was a young woman who inspired so many people to be coaches."
**Tom Rimback of the Burlington County Times also has an interesting feature today on Maryland's Crystal Langhorne, a native of Willingboro, who is friendly with Matee Ajavon and Essence Carson of Rutgers.
