Kilpatrick Drawing Offers
Sean Kilpatrick, a 6-5 senior shooting guard from White Plains High, holds offers from St. John's, Kansas State and UMass, and he is receiving strong interest from Seton Hall, UConn, Maryland, Manhattan, DePaul, George Washington, Virginia and N.C. State.
Kilpatrick picked up the St. John's offer Wednesday night after pouring in a career-high 33 points in a 76-56 home loss to West Virginia-bound Kevin Jones and Mount Vernon. Kilpatrick now has 1,000 career points.
Among the coaches on hand were Seton Hall head coach Bobby Gonzalez, Manhattan head coach Barry Rohrssen and St. John's assistant Freddie Quartlebaum.
Gerard Jones, Kevin's older brother, is advising Kilpatrick and said he expects Gonzalez to offer a scholarship soon. In the meantime, Kilpatrick plans to visit St. John's for Saturday's home game with DePaul, and probably Seton Hall's Prudential Center for the Jan. 17 home game with South Florida.
Gerard described Kilpatrick as a "natural two" who can also play the three and the one.
"He's an all-around player," Gerard said. "He's a combo guard and can play the wing. "He's a scorer. He's averaging close to 30 points per game this season."
He played on the Westchester Hawks, alongside Kevin Jones, Mookie Jones of Peeksill (Syracuse) and Tyshawn Taylor of St. Anthony (Marquette), and could be the next big player to go D-1 from that program.
"He's been killing," Gerard said. "Everyone was so concentrated on getting Kevin and Mookie and then Tyshawn Taylor. Sean Kilpatrick they always knew about. At the end of the summer, when (the Hawks) went to Florida, he stayed behind and worked on his grades. As he matured, he definitely understood the value and importance of his academics. He started working extremely hard on his academics. It lit a fire when you see all your boys going Big East.
"He waited until the second signing period because wanted he to get his grades together. Now he's registered with the Clearinghouse and everything's good."
