Despite not having injured guard Paul Gause (broken knuckle), Seton Hall went into No. 15 Marquette and made it close, but ultimately came away with another conference loss, 61-56.
Bright spots for the Pirates (10-5, 0-2) included Brian Laing's 1,000th career points (he finished with 13) and some nifty over-the-head-ESPN-highlight-reel passing from Eugene Harvey (18 pts, 3 asts).
Seton Hall led 47-45 with about six minutes to go but Dominic James made a layup and was intentionally fouled by Pirates guard Jamar Nutter. While James was being seen by trainers, Marquette's Maurice Acker made both foul shots to give the Golden Eagles a 49-47 lead, their first since 2-1.
The Pirates hurt themselves at the line, going 11-for-18. They had entered the game leading the Big East in foul shooting. Nutter remains 39 points shy of 1,000 for his career.
Real tough loss to swallow. It looked like we matched-up w/Marquette physically, both somewhat smallish lineups. Didn't like coach's strategy at end of game-we should have fouled and sent them to the line for two instead of allowing half-court offense set-up; too much time to burn off clock and they are a good 3-shooting team. And both happened with the 3-dagger.
Harvey is some playmaker, do you think he will finish four years at Seton Hall Adam? Maybe he'll comeback for his junior year, but can't see him staying around for senior year after starting for 3 seasons.
