Ebanks Will Get Release

Ebanks_indianaDevin Ebanks has asked for a release from his Letter of Intent to Indiana and his high school coach says the release will be granted.

"He's spoke to the people at indiana and they're aparently going to be sending him his release," St. Thomas More coach Jere Quinn said Tuesday.

The 6-foot-9 Ebanks, the No. 13 overall prospect in the Class of 2008, was at Indiana this past weekend for the Big 10 Tournament. He was planning on meeting with IU athletic director Rick Greenspan to ask for a release following the buyout of former IU coach Kelvin Sampson for repeated recruiting violations. Ebanks had a clause in his LOI allowing him to escape if there was a coaching change.

Now comes the next step for Ebanks.

"Right now he's talking about Memphis, Texas  and Rutgers," Quinn said. "He may add a fourth. A bunch of people are trying to get it, but who knows?"

Quinn said no dates for visits have been set.

"Until he has that release in his hand, there's really not much he can do," Quinn said.

Since both Memphis and Texas are competing in the NCAA Tournament, Ebanks likely couldn't visit either school until after the Big Dance.

"I think he's just going to wait until the basketball season is over," Quinn said.

“I will try to make a decision after the Big Ten Tournament,” Ebanks told the Indiana Daily Student.
