McMillan to South Florida
St. Benedict's Prep point guard Dwan McMillan has committed to South Florida after visiting the school this past weekend.
"When I went down there, I just felt at home," McMillan, 18, said Monday. "It was nice."
The 6-foot , 160-pound McMillan also had offers from Cincinnati, St. John's, La Salle, UMass and Clemson. McMillan also visited Providence two weeks ago.
"That was my top school but then when I went to South Florida I liked it," he said.
McMillan, ranked No. 57 among point guards in the Class of 2008 by ESPN.com, averaged 14 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds for the Prep A state champion St. Benedict's Prep team.
"I'm a pure point guard," he said. "I can get in the lane and I make my teammates better."
McMillan joins a recruiting class that includes 6-7, 220-pound PF Eladio Espinosa of Charlotte (NC) Victory Christian, who committed in November, and 6-8, 295-pound PF Gene Teague of Apex Academy Living Faith (NJ), who committed Saturday.
A Brooklyn native, McMillan spent three years at Brooklyn Boys & Girls and two at St. Benedict's, where he played under head coach Danny Hurley.
"I grew as a person, I'm prepared for life down the road," he said of his time at the Newark school.
McMillan knows several players in the Big East, former St. Ben's players Corey Stokes (Villanova) and Rashad Bishop (Cincinnati) and incoming frosh Samardo Samuels (Louisville).
"I just think it's a welcome home for everybody," he said of the Big East.
