Kellogg to UMass
Derek Kellogg will be introduced as the new head basketball coach at UMass during a ceremony Wednesday in the Curry-Hicks Cage.
The 34-year-old Kellogg played at UMass for John Calipari from 1991-1995 and was an All-Atlantic 10 player. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant in 1996-97 for the Minuteman, and has been an assistant coach at Memphis under Calipari for the past eight years.
Kellogg will replace Travis Ford, who left Massachusetts for Oklahoma State.
He becomes the second Calipari assistant to leave, following Chucky Martin, who took the Marist job.
It wouldn't shock us to see Paterson native Hashim "Big City" Bailey follow either one of his former coaches to their new destinations. The 6-10 Bailey has seen very little run during his time in Memphis.
Assuming he returns to the Memphis Tigers, Calipari also lost Tyrone Weeks, his Coordinator of Basketball Operations, to Marist.

Dre-
Calipari has agreed to a MASSIVE contract extension. He didn't lose Tyrone Weeks to Marist, he lost Chucky Martin to Marist. The losses of assistant coaches will not hurt Calipari. He is one of the most connected coaches in basketball. Look for Vance Wahlberg and/or Tony Matlock to be appointed in some capacity on the Memphis coaching staff.
