Rock 'n' Roll Rundown: Allmans, Stones, Eagles & Bruce

Gregg_allmanOne of the surest signs of spring in New York City over the past decade or so has been the arrival of the Allman Brothers for their monthlong March run at the Beacon Theater.

This year I purchased four tickets for March 25 and probably would've hit 2 or 3 other shows as well.

But the shows were moved to May and ultimately cancelled when it was announced that Gregg Allman had hepatitis C and couldn't do the run. Apparently Allman was treated with interferon, which, ironically enough, interfered with his recovery.

On Friday, the Allman Brothers announced on their Web site that the shows would be rescheduled for early 2009, the 40th anniversary of its founding.

"New York's a second home to us," Allman, 60, said in a statement. "We love playing there and are as disappointed as anybody not to be able to get there this time." -

In other new and notes...

Mick**If you haven't yet seen the Martin Scorcese/Stones flick "Shine A LIght," we highly recommend it. Some of our personal favorites: the Mick Jagger/Jack White duet on "Loving Cup"; the Mick/Christina Aguilera duet on "LIve With Me"; Buddy Guy and Jagger doing "Champagne and Reefer"; and Keith Richard's soulful version of "You Got the Silver." The archival footage is all worth the price of admission...

**The summer shows will soon be upon us and we also highly recommend checking out the Eagles, who will do 2 shows at the Rock in Newark (May 24 and 25) and 3 at the Garden (28, 30 & 31). Yes, these guys are old but when I saw them a year or so ago, they still rocked out all the old favs at a blistering pace. And Henley and Frey still have the pipes.

**Springsteen will play 3 shows at Giants Stadium July 27, 28 & 31....Bruuuuuuce!
