Gonzo on Jamel Jackson

Gonzo_courtesy_shuSeton Hall men’s coach Bobby Gonzalez commented today on the signing of Jamel Jackson, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound shooting guard out of Technical Career Institute in Manhattan.

"Jamel is a tremendous shooter with a quick release and he'll give us another deep range threat," Gonzalez said. "I think he's as good of a long-distance shooter as Jeremy Hazell, but he also plays good defense and has impressive size for a two guard. Jamel is the epitome of the kind of guard that I love and has made my system successful over the years."

Jackson will have three years of eligibility remaining. He averaged 24.5 points per game last year at TCI, shooting 47 percent from the field and 50 percent from the 3-point range.

For more on Jackson, read my post with comments from him and his coach.

What happened to the elusive great recruit that Gonzalez said (paraphrasing) would cause people to question whether or not he was cheating?

Dre:
That's a great question for tomorrow's meeting with reporters. I think he initially had a Tyreke Evans or a Lance Stephenson in mind, and he likely still believes Seton Hall can land such a player.

Although the player never materialized (for the 2008 class), I assumed he was being, at worst, bombastic or, at best, wishful.

The problem, from afar, with statements like his is that it sets up potentially irrational expectations from one's own fan base. Perhaps, the fans can take a limited degree of solace in that they were, to some degree, in contention for Evans.

Dre -
While I appreciate the sentiments, the thought that we (SHU fans) should take some sort of solace simply because we were in contention for Evans is preposterous.
Personally, I'm beside myself with what has (or has not) happened to the state of SHU basketball since March.
J.Q., Gonzo, Msr., GET IT TOGETHER!!

DRE has no credibility commenting on SHU basketball let alone much else. He lives in his make-believe Duke and Harvard alumni world but can't post on either of those sites because he's a fraud. He trashes NJ and its schools every chance he gets. He's a troll that is more than likely a 'Nova dropout, or the dumb brother with a sibling that did attend 'Nova.
