Parrom Enjoyed Xavier Visit; Headed to South Kent

Kevin_parromThere is a great deal of news swirling around former St. Raymond of the Bronx standout Kevin Parrom.

The 6-foot-6, 185-pound Parrom is in the midst of changing high schools and also cutting down his list of potential colleges.

Parrom, a junior small forward, took an unofficial visit to Xavier over the weekend and said it went very well.

"It was a  great visit," he said Monday by phone. "I had  great time out there with Coach (Book) Richardson and Coach (Sean) Miller is a great guy." Parrom has known Richardson, the former head of the Gauchos program, since he was 4 years old.

Parrom said he especially enjoyed the size of the campus.

"I got to meet (junior guard) BJ Raymond," he said. "They took a tour around campus with me. The campus is not really too big, not really too small. It's a great feeling for any player."

Parrom is also considering Marquette, St. John's, Rutgers, South Carolina, Pittsburgh, Providence, Clemson and Rhode Island. He has been to Rutgers and St. John's unofficially.

"I'm looking to chop it down this summer," he said of his list.

Xavier has two scholarships remaining for the Class of 2009 and is also involved with Dominic Cheek of St. Anthony, Durand Scott of Rice and of Tevin Baskin of Trinity Catholic.

In the Class of 2010, Xavier has offered Tobias Harris, Marcus Kennedy, Jayvaughn Pinkston, Devon Collier, Ashton Pankey, Shane Southwell, Jayon James, Fuquan Edwin and Shaq Thomas.

Xavier has graduated its last 73 seniors since 1985 and has sent 14 players to the pros in the last 14 years.

As for his summer schedule, Parrom will compete with the New York Panthers in the Rumble in the Bronx this coming weekend; attend the NBA Top 100 Camp in Virginia June 17-22; take a visit to Marquette June 26 with teammate Omari Lawrence; and attend the Reebok All-American Camp July 6-10 in Philly.

After parting ways with St. Raymond, Parrom says he will end up next season at South Kent (Conn.)

"I'm most likely going to be at South Kent in September," he said. "Coach (Kelvin) Jefferson is a new coach and he's doing a great job. I feel very comfortable with him."

South Kent traditionally produces a number of Division I players, including incoming Rutgers freshman big man Christian Morris of the Bronx.
