Kidd to have an MRI

Everyone wants to know about Jason Kidd and finally we have some new information. He wasn't at Kiddthis morning's shootaround. He's having an MRI on his back. We'll know more later.

Kidd will not be at the game tonight either we're being told because of his back. He's going to be on some type of treatment schedule that we should be clued in more on later.

The reason the Nets waited this long for Kidd to have an MRI was because he he physically couldn't until today.

"The bottom line is in order to do the MRI he had to lay flat on his back, and until today he couldn't" Lawrence Frank said. "I guess it’s for 40 minutes that they do the process. [Trainer] Timmy [Walsh] had to wait until he could physically do it. Now he can do it and now we'll see if they need to do anything with it."

I'm sure people are guessing that Kidd's disappearance from the media and practice has everything to do with what happened off the court. It's a good theory, but one I can't confirm at this point. From everything I know, the back is a legit injury, but I'm sure he's trying to avoid us a little, too.

If Kidd was here and playing the Nets would have started the same five against the Knicks tonight that they opened last season with. Instead Darrell Armstrong started with Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, Jason Collins and Nenad Krstic.

It was good to hear Krstic's reaction to playing for the first time since last December.

"I'm really excited," Krstic said. "After 10 months, I'm going to be on the court. That's like amazing for me just to be there."

From this you could take that Krstic, if healthy on Oct. 31, will start in the opener and if Kidd is healthy the Nets will have the same starting five as the the last few years.

"I think we're going back to the same old thing," Frank said. "Right now, yes, that would be. Now it's going to hing on how quickly can [Krstic] get back. There's still competition for the center spot. So there's time up for grabs."

It definitely makes more sense to start Krstic than to have him sit and let his knee get cold after warmups. As for the center competition, Frank has to say that. It's Collins' job barring something unforeseen.

Then of course the question is what's the big man rotation off the bench? That is being worked on still. No way six bigs will be playing.

Bostjan Nachbar is a game-time decision because of his sore neck.
